I have an SPG Amex that I put about $25-30k on a year. I wonder if that makes me eligible or not?
The data points I've read have been all over. I'll put close to 45k on my SPG Amex this year(12k MS), but it's a personal card and I have no business cards with AMEX. When AMEX offers the 30k card again I'll sign up for the biz card and try to run as much as I can through it. They did send me the 50k gold offer though. Don't think that's rare.

"The points guy" says he values them at $.02 so that's $2k in points and then of course all the other benefits laid out already.

And you can get significantly more value than that as well with transfers to some of their airline partners for business class seating.

Can you give an example of this, using Delta if possible? I have never fully understood how to get max value of your MR points by transferring them. Obviously I understand the transfer bonus they sometimes offer.

Is the line of thinking this:

100,000 MR points = $1,000
100,000 MR points = 100,000 skymiles (or more if their is a bonus) which could be 3 or so flights in economy award travel. What is the value for business class?

Which Office Depot? That would be very upsetting.

Could be up to 4 in economy for domestic flights or 2 domestic in Biz/1st

I've never really spent time looking in to Delta awards, because I haven't geared my CC spending to get points for them. But, this is one of the best awards that i know of:
LINK
100k points for 2 RT business class seats BOS-DUB. That flight usually prices out around $4k per RT ticket giving you ~$8k in value for your 100k Amex points.

We can fly Jetblue/SW out of MSY to Boston direct usually for pretty cheap as well.

What do you tend to use the Platinum concierge for?

I have the card, but have never used it.

I have used them 6 times I believe and every one of those times it has been an extreme pleasure to deal with them.

One time we were having a retirement party for someone at work and the venue we were having it at was literally next door to a hotel. I called the hotel and they said nothing was available for that night. Yes, I called the day of the event, I'm an idiot. Called concierge and he told me "let me do some magic and I'll call you back within the hour". He called me back within about 10 minutes and had booked me a Jr Suite at that "full" hotel and got it for less than $200. I was floored. He pushed the service very hard and said not to hesitate on anything too large or too small. He said they have divisions for almost every scenario. And you don't have to necessarily book/pay for these things (like the hotel) with your Platinum card.

Currently I have them assisting me to find the perfect spot in Seattle to officially propose to my SO. She's from that area and I know it will be special for her. When I talked to the lady who answered, she forwarded me to a specialist that does nothing but assist Platinum members with wedding related requests. She is currently putting several packages or scenarios, if you will, together for me.

And can you use any of these services with the PRG?

I honestly do not know. I have the PRG as well but do not recall the concierge program ever being talked about in the welcome box that my card came in. If I had to guess I would say no, but that is only a guess on my part.

I think they want to try and have some sort of carrot to dangle in front of people to get them to get the Platinum. Especially since a lot of the historical perks have either disappeared or diminished significantly.

Perhaps the issue was Variable Amazon Gift card (those ones that are $25 - $500) vs. Fixed Amount?

I know the OD near me doesn't do CC for variable amount cards, but no problem on anything fixed.

That is what the teller said. Because of the variable rate. I had just bought some a week before.

Afro I am going to try another teller or Office Depot tomorrow. It was an easy 4x's the points.

Everything is YMMV. Not surprised a clerk was letting it happen. That happens sometimes

I always get the variable one, because I normally get one for $200-$300. It would hurt my heart if I had to start buying a half-dozen of those damned things.

Ha I've never tried the variable at OD. I just get the $100 ones at Office Max but BR doesn't have one of those, and unfortunately neither of us have Staples

The OD in Denham Springs only has variable Amazon cards. I guess I'll have to look for the fixed amount cards in BR.

Office Depot in BR sold me a variable Whole Foods card. Hopefully that means my Amazon cards are safe.

so I got hit with a $95 Delta AmEx fee. I dont use this card ever so that smart thing to do is cancel and transfer the credit limit to my AmEx Blue (which I dont really use) to not hurt my credit score correct. Only problem is I now have a $16,000 limit on a card I dont use - what are the consequences of this?

Downgrading is certainly preferable to closing, and I see nothing inherently wrong with having a high credit limit on a card you don't use. Just buy a candy bar with it every so often so they don't close it on you.

Just downgrade the card to one that has no fee.

Helps your utilization % by keeping it.
