Pretty much. 5 years ago or more.
You can look at some of the past ballots and really ask yourself "WTF?"

I respect Dan's work, but I disapprove of his doing this since all he's doing is stirring the pot and trolling here, and I'd have no problem politely telling him so if he asked my opinion.
I might disapprove more sharply of the faux (or worse, not faux) outrage of the Esteemed Residents of Mount Pious who are allowing themselves to be so upriled by a man who holds less than 0.3% of the total Hall of Fame vote.

He didn't sell his vote.

Also, how hilarious is it that the writers' association email address is bbwaa@aol.com

Did you read the letter he wrote? I love that he did this. Bringing more light on how asinine the voting method and voters' attitudes are.

Baseball is always reticent to change, but our flawed voting process needs remodeling in a new media world. Besides, every year the power is abused the way I'm going to be alleged to abuse it here. There's never been a unanimous first-ballot guy? Seriously? If Ruth and Mays and Schmidt aren't that, then what is? This year, someone is going to leave one of the five best pitchers ever off the ballot. Suck it, Greg Maddux.
I've become a more and more lenient voter over the years, often allowing the max 10 guys in a year, and I wanted to put in more this year. I happen to agree with most of the reader selections. I was afraid you guys were going to have me voting for Jacque Jones and no one else. I was kind of surprised this particular snark-land respected the process. I found it impossible to limit it this year to 10, but 10 was all that was allowed, so thanks for the help. But why limit it to 10 in a year that has more than 10 worthy candidates, by the way? How dumb is that?
And my final reason: I always like a little anarchy inside the cathedral we've made of sports.
I'm not sure what kind of trouble this is going to bring me. I imagine I'll probably have my vote stripped. But I don't want to be a part of the present climate without reform anyway. Given that climate, doing THIS has more impact than my next 20 years of votes as sanctimony bars the HOF door on the steroid guys. Because, in a climate without reform, my next 20 years of votes will be counted but not actually heard. At least this gets it heard, for better or for worse.

PTIs take on this was so sad
They called him an egomaniac for "spitting on the process" and claimed the system was great and didnt need to be changed
It was hilarious hearing them call someone else an egomaniac while they sit and fawn over writers like themselves ability to decide these things and how dare he defy that process

Pathetic. And goes exactly to why what he did was so money.

As the board's biggest Lebby homer, I of course agree with everyone that this was a great thing.
Funny, when the story was broken a month or so ago that someone sold their vote, he talked about it and said it wasn't him, but if he would do it, he wouldn't accept money, but would do it to make a point. Funny as he probably had already done it lol.

quote:He always does this, retweeting the hate tweets. On his radio show, the last thing he does every Friday is a segment called #nobodylikesus where he just reads mean tweets about him and his show.
He's getting ripped on Twitter (both by fans and other voters) and he's just retweeting all of them

Never been a big fan of his but I respect his move here. He didn't sell his vote either.. He simply used the input of outside sources to fill out his ballot.. I would assume many writers use sounding boards/ website analytics and colleagues to decide their ballot. Overall, I see nothing wrong with him bringing to light the horrible process used for HOF induction.

Here's some on-air ESPN-on-ESPN violence, with Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon giving us their thoughts about their colleague Dan Le Batard's decision to turn his baseball Hall of Fame vote over to Deadspin. Were their takes hot? They were so hot.
Basically, Kornheiser and Wilbon are arguing that the voting process for the Hall of Fame is perfect and not at all completely broken, and that Le Batard did what he did because he is sanctimonious. Do they understand what that word means?
Also, they really, really want to blame Le Batard for Craig Biggio not getting into the Hall, but they can't. The whole thing is highly—if probably inadvertently—entertaining.

Baseball HOF voting is the biggest joke in all of sports anyway. Don't know why this is such an outrage.

Now slow your roll there broseph. Some of us actually listen to the local show, on the local station daily and don't wait for the podcast.

Sanctimonious- giving away your prestigious vote to the common people. Wait, what? Was pretty funny to see the actual sanctimonious crowd throw that word around, and Jon Heyman not even being able to spell it.
