What in the frick is going with our early departures?

The only thing I can think of is there are some bad outside influences/agents too close to players.

No they want to pro in 3 years and for whatever reason they convince themselves to do it together even if one guys a 1st rder and the other's a 6th.

If he does go pro, good for him. I hope he test out well and can go in the mid rounds. These kids want to go pro and finish their rookie contracts as soon as possible to capitalize on free agency.

He's a big strong boy that could become a mauler at the next level. Good luck Trai.

A lot of these guys never had a pot to piss in while growing up. All of a sudden you through a few hundred thousand dollar signing bonus at 'em, and rational thinking takes a holiday.

we simply cannot keep this attrition up and continue to compete on the field.

It just can't happen.

Are any other top programs the last few years experiencing the same sort of attrition that we are with a bunch of underclassmen leaving early that should probably stay another year?

No. Last year LSU had more early declarents who weren't picked by the 100th pick than the entire rest of the SEC combined.

It happens to a lot of top programs. Luckily for us, we recruit extremely well. Fanaika, Dodd, Austin, Brumfield, Clapp, among others... should be able to fill the void.

While it may look to hurt us in the short term, which it may not given the quality of prospects we bring in every year, it certainly helps the program in the long run continuing to pump players into the NFL. It makes it very appealing to those young kids who want to make it to the big leagues.

Just got a text from a close friend. His girlfriend works with Trai Turner's cousin. He said that he is just training, but likes school and has good grades. Also said his family doesn't need him to go pro for financial reasons. Just testing the NFL water, but doesn't think he'll leave.

Take it for what it's worth.

this is a myth.

The hit LSU took last year was pretty much unprecedented.

Wow way to leave your team for a chance to go in the 7th round or most likely undrafted

It was uncommonly high... but it's probably going to become a trend given the restructuring of the rookie wage scale. Bama loses plenty of players every season as well and they are in the hunt every year.

There's has been plenty of articles posted on this site showing the difference in money between rounds isn't that much. This kids want to get to the pros as soon as they can to capitalize on their second contracts.

Reload and compete. It's the nature of the game when you're a program like LSU.

but it was also a confluence of a lot of different circumstances.

For one thing, only Simon, Reid, Wing, and Ware were 3 year players.

While its a lot, I don't think you can really question Reid or Ware leaving.

There were rumors that Wing wasn't even welcome on the team this year regardless.

After that it was a bunch of 4 year guys who RSd and had degrees already anyway.

yea I know guys.

I'm just saying, it's got to stop NOW.

We can't lose Mett, Hill, Beck, Landry, Collins, Turner, Johnson, Ego and keep winning 10 a year.
Hell, 10 a year isn't even good enough to keep us happy.

hopefully zombie is right.

Some have even thrown out Rasco's name.

Personally, I want to see what the "Mowin' Samoan" can do at right guard...'cause we are going to be a running team next year...you can count on that!
