It's not....and I think students in St. George currently zoned for Westdale Middle, Tara High, McKinley High would disagree - especially ones in the southwestern part of the parish would agree that there is validity to that argument.

Tara is the temp replacement for the Lee High students.

TrollllLOLOL!
You're either delusional, lying or trolling. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here, but get back under the bridge now, please.

You're in denial. Many SG students will be attending schools further from their neighborhood, not closer.

Parents begged them not to shut down Lee High. It's been home to the magnet school while BR high was being renovated and now the facilities at Lee High need to be replaced. It won't be open again as a high school for years.
Currently Tara students in St. George are bused in from as far away as O'Neal lane and the southwest corner of the parish.
Tara isn't the only problem. There's also need for another middle school (perhaps two) in the St. George area, where students in the southwestern part of the parish are sent past existing Kenilworth and Glasgow schools to attend Westdale in mid city. Students in Old South Baton Rouge are sent down to to Glasgow and Kenilworth despite Westdale being the nearest school (by far).

No, son. I fully understand that Woodlawn isn't close to everyone in St George, but that was my point about 1 school versus 11 in St George area. Just because they screwed us for decades doesn't mean it's too late to form our own and make it right.

Yet another reason kids in St. George who want to attend public school are being screwed to tears. That school is the most convenient to the rapidly growing south western part of the parish....kids there are sent beyond Kenilworth and Glasgow and into mid city to attend Westdale.
Insanity.

It's obvious you are not knowledgeable about the schools. You complain about Kenilworth not knowing it's a magnet charter school. So, I'll leave it to you to argue without knowing what you're arguing about.
I'm going to concentrate on the football game now. The team needs me!

You are missing my point completely....I'm guessing because you don't want to acknowledge the insanity of sending kids from southern and southwestern EBR into mid city for middle school - past two public schools much closer to home.
Kenilworth Middle being an RSD facility is just another reason for St. George parents to be incredibly frustrated with having to send their kids all the way to Westdale and not Glasgow or Kenilworth.
You've provided tremendous insight into this subject...but if you were being honest with yourself, you'd see the problem with the current zoning and understand the justification for more middle schools and another high school in the south western part of East Baton Rouge.

I don't think St George will affect a lot of the inner city schools. They will just shift the population not in St George to fill spots at Tara, Broadmoor, Belaire, and if a new Lee High is built.
You may see a new group of kids from lower middle class families that were in private school or outside the area moving into this area to attend St George Schools.
I don't think St George will get the signatures or votes to become a city. It is sad because the young families with kids is the group we need to help keep BR alive and growing in the future will be in neighboring parishes. South EBRP will look like Florida Blvd in 10 to 15 years while Sherwood, Broadmoor, and East Florida Blvd will be like North Baton Rouge.
It will be a matter of time before Ascension and Livingston Parish start building shopping centers, movie theaters, and developments like Perkins Rowe that will attract the businesses along with the sales in South EBRP.

Russian,
You seem to be updated and well informed on this. In your opinion, what IS the solution to our public school problem?
I'm behind SG bc I feel it's an actual progressive step, and i don't think I've ever seen one of those in EBR.
But if there is a better way, I'm all ears...I think we all are.

Why do people think government is responsible for fixing cultures that produce shitty students?
For the most part, a school is only as good as it's students. All you can do is move them around or have a more selective enrollment.

They will never get to that point if they don't start drastically changing their viewpoints on transportation and roads. A ton of two and three lane roads won't work.

So you think we should just continue along as we are?
Why NOT give SG a chance?
I also do not believe it's the govts responsibility to fix our schools. It's OUR responsibility. That's why the plan for sg was born in the first place. We want responsibility for the schools close to us bc EBR is in WAAAYYY over their heads.

You keep claiming the leaders of this effort are lying to the people saying taxes will not be raised.
quote:Of course it would take a vote. But if you are claiming the leaders have said new taxes might have to be proposed, please provide a link. I have not seen or read even one statement by them that additional taxes might be needed.
They have said taxes could increase but only by vote.

I agree TigerRob20.
I sat at a BR Chamber meeting in Iberville Parish listening about how BR does not need a loop. They said we have the right of way to connect I-10 to 3125 which will send that traffic to New Orleans.
Then I remember living in Shreveport remembering about the town having an inner loop, burt kouns industrial loop, and an Outer loop. Shreveport thought things out.
