Long explanation which I was trying to avoid while I'm watching the game.

In some areas one bus will pick up all the kids in that area, elementary, middle school and high school. Those kids go to 3 different schools. The bus will meet other busses at a central point and the HS kids go one way, the MS kids get on another bus and the original bus takes the elementary kids on to their school.

They are not being "bussed" for deseg purposes.

Why the anger?

Tara High and Westdale Middle.

The drive from south west EBR to Woodlawn from that area wouldn't be much easier. St. George would have to build another high school somewhere west of Woodlawn.

Never said for deseg purposes, what I said

quote:

return to neighborhood schools instead of bussing kids all over the place

And if your above scenario is correct just shows another huge issue with how EBR is doing things wrong, mixing 18 & 19 year olds with elementary and middle school children, with only the supervision of a bus driver who should be concentrating on the road and not the back seat, as well as having students catch the buss at very early times and not getting home till late, but I guess it is free child care too

Oh and no anger, I live in Ascension and have no kids, just very disappointed to see the state of my old school system, and feel that St George is about the only thing that can fix it

This is one major way EBRSS had screwed us. I think the numbers I saw were 1 high school in the unincorporated area to 11 high schools in BR proper. Take our taxes. Shady or students, but we can just pay for private school, right?
And Russian, please don't let your hatred of Boss White seep into your argument on St George.

I think there is validity to the argument that EBR public schools is screwing over the students and parents. That's what this is all about, right? Public schools?

You realize that if St George happens HS students from all over the school district will be bussed to Woodlawn HS. That means from Gardere all the way to the Livingston Parish line north of Fla Blvd will be bussed 8-12 miles one way.

That's not exactly what I consider to be a "neighborhood" school.

They'd have to build another high school. That will help the public school kids and parents, but it won't be cheap.

"Boss" White is accurate!

It's not hatred. It's distrust. The guy doesn't tell the truth.

He's a politician with big goals.

That doesn't mean St. George wouldn't be better off with their own schools.

Cool, we fully agree on something , but then again what politician can you trust to tell the truth?

It would take 2 new high schools to reduce bussing to what it is now for HS students.

And increased taxes to do it. The politicians are lying about no new taxes are needed.

I'll take my chances with Bodi White, if crooked Kip, the BRPD, EBRPSS, and the metro council are the upstanding friends of the people on the other side.

You are getting a little carried away.

One high school placed along Bluebonnet would cut it significantly for everyone west of I-10 who is currently zoned to Tara or McKinley (and one of the mid city middle schools)...perhaps more depending on where they draw the zones.

Most of them go to Tara.

For the small zone north of I-12, you are right...they may have a longer drive to Woodlawn than they did for Broadmoor.

For most of St. George (which is currently zoned for Tara or McKinley) one new high school placed along Bluebonnet or Siegen would cut student commute significantly.

I'd like to see a new high school built on Dwyerwood/Upton or in an area around Bluebonnet west of I-10.

As Lee High will when it reopens.

The whole "neighborhood school" argument is baseless for St George.
