He was out at Lake Fausse Pointe to brush our blind and ran it up on the bank. Water rushed over the back and the boat slid back down the bank and sunk right there.

Here's the fricked up part. He had to swim 3 hours across the lake to the state park. He then borrowed a canoe and paddles back to his truck at the Texaco Landing. Wildlife and Fisheries is there and give him a boat ride back to his sunken boat and takes pictures. They then give him some advice on ways to recover his boat.

Long story short, his gator-tail is still sitting on the bottom with the top of the motor sticking out.

We're going tomorrow with some come-a-longs to try and drag it up the bank to recover it. We may try to attach innertubes and life jackets to the back to try and float the back up.

At least it ain't salt water.

Reenactment of the sinking

We showed up with chain saws, come-a-longs, straps, and a chain drop. We cut a few trees so we could pull the boat up, hooked up the chain drop, and pulled it out the water so it could drain. Then we just slid it back in the water. I don't think the motor is in bad shape at all. My buddy called gator tail and Hoyt told him he would be there waiting for him to show up so he could jump
On it right away. Talk about customer service.

I added a few pics of the rescue fleet as well.

I think a happy birthday balloon would help as well.

Holy hell that sounds miserable. Not even close to that, but here is my dads brand new one literally 30 minutes after we launched it for the first time last weekend. Boat slid on him and he ran it right onto the bank--high centered and had to get someone to come pull us off.

my friend almost sunk his the exact same way

we were in the high bridge canal in madisonville and he ran it up the shore and it started sinking. luckily i was right there with my boat so we quickly tied his boat to mine and we managed to keep it on the surface while he was bucketing the water out. the whole time our other friend was treading water (like an hour)
he was crying when we came back to get him

I need to be more careful when I'm nosing in on a bank. I could easily see this happening to my 14' alum boat. Best of luck to your friend, sounds like it was a pretty crappy day for him.

Thanks for sharing this. You may have saved someone else from a dangerous situation.

This is one of the reasons I was leaning towards the prodrive SBX boat when I was contemplating getting a surface drive. I know its unlikely if you are safe, but I'd like to know that my boat can recover from at least some adverse conditions. Especially when your stuck out in the cold.

Is that your friend in the reenactment? Does he work in mortgages? Pretty sure he did my home loan and definitely seems like the kind of clown who would do this!
