I am looking for a fixed blade hunting knife, I need some opinions. I am looking for something with a good steel, easy to sharpen, and something that holds an edge. Reau

How much are you looking to spend?

That's a good range for a good fixed blade knife. I've become partial to SOG. Check out the SOG Field Pup and see what you think.

What are you going to use this knife for? Just a good general purpose field knife? If so then the mentioned Ka-bar would be a great choice. 1095 plain carbon steel is inexpensive, tough, easy to sharpen, can take and hold a very sharp edge. Only real trade off is that you'll have to keep a light coating of oil on the blade to keep away rust on the edge and wherever the coating wears away. I have a big SOG SEAL knife which has been pretty good except a bit tougher to sharpen.

ESEE-5
Resident gun expert Yat will back me up on that. I have one and have used it to chop down multiple small trees. I am a knife snob

Cabela's sells a brand Alaskan Guide. Check out the Alpha fixed knife by Buck Knives. $134 on site but I have seen sales for them. Excellent knife. Have skinned many deer and hog. Easy to sharpen. Gut hook works very well.

Main purpose is to skin hogs, deer, and other game! I carry a Boker Trapper in my pocket for general use and small game skinning..I just love knives

Oh, skinning get a cutco. You don't need a seriously strong blade for that. More of a softer metal deal

If you're talking about me, I'm no expert...plenty of cats that know more than me on here. ESEE makes fantastic knives, and the ESEE 5 is .25 inch thick beast of a survival knife. But yeah, like you said, probably not appropriate after finding out the OP's needs.

I hate a Smith and Wesson fixed blade that was my fave knife of all time. I could not dull that knife for anything. Lost it along with my whole hunting pack and have not been able to find another knife like that one in the same price point anyway.

I carry that, my Leatherman, and a Spyderco Military in the woods at all times

I carry a Leatherman, a flashlight and a knife everywhere...not just in the woods.
I carried a Spyderco Delica 4 FFG today.

Had one, but I am not comfortable with the deflection of the handle when lateral stress is put on the blade

It's definitely not as sturdy as the Military (Para-Military 2 is my favorite Spyderco), but it's perfect for an EDC.
I switch out knifes every day. I have like 40 folders.
