My next smoker will be electric. Tired of babysitting and they look like a great deal for the money.

electric sucks. I have one, don't use it. just wood for now.

Gas still needs tending…water pan and wood pan need filled regularly.

the 6 oz. of wood you put in your electric smoker will not match the richness and flavor of meat smoked using only wood as fuel.

The meat may stop absorbing smoke after a couple of hours, but the bark will continue to develop and absorb it.

I don't have one, but no one is limited to 6 oz.

I have a gas smoker and I'm not pleased with it. I cannot get the deep smoky flavor into the meat. The meat is cooked fine, on time and tastes great, but doesn't have the wood flavor I can get out of other smokers

Go here and learn. [b]LINK ] I own the MES 30. I purchased it over a year ago after reading all of the reviews on it. It comes with its own set of problems but every one of them can be resolved. Especially if you are a little bit handy.

No problem with acquiring Bark on the meat. You do not get a smoke ring with it though, but I've never heard of anyone ordering just the some ring of the meat. You can not taste smoke ring.

I love it. Accessories I've bought for it are:

1)Maverick 732 Duel Probe Digital Thermometer with remote monitor that allows you to set your parameters and then will sound an alarm when when temp goes outside of them. Sleep and let it work.
2)AMAZIN Pellet Smoker, you get up to eleven hours of smoke from this if you so desire.

I have a propane Masterbuilt XL and love it. Soak the wood and it will last about 3 hours never have to refill water tray.

We gave my FIL an electric smoker last year for Christmas. He loves it and does amazing shite with it. I am envious of it and hoping he gets me one for Christmas this year.

If not, I will be buying one before NYD.

I've used multiple types of wood, wet & dry, chips and chunks in the "firebox" None seem to penetrate the meat very well. Could it have anything to do with brining the meat?

Wood, wet, penetrate, box and not one snatch mention

My brother has an electric smoker and he loves it and he can cook some really good meat on it.

I have a Primos Kamado grill. Personally I prefer the charcoil cooked food over the electric.

Also, When I cook a shoulder I will put it on around 9:00 pm and take it off the next morning. There is no baby sitting. I never even check it. When I get the temp right it won't vary more than 25 degrees.

I can also get it to 700 degrees if I want to cook a steak on it. For just general grilling it takes about 15 minutes to get it to temp.

It's just my preference.

Best thing about the electric is the heat regulation. I have a cheaper masterbuilt electric smoker with the analog rheostat for controlling the heat. works great and still gets plenty of smoke from the wood chip box in it. I think i paid $130 for it and has always produced great results.

my dad had an electric. he does unbelieveable brisket, salmon, chicken, whole filet, etc. I would put it against and wood smoked stuff out there.

I can say the same of my FIL.

However, he's a gump so his cooking skills are probably invalid here.

Hot Rod ( that's what I call him ) can turn out some really good stuff on his electric.

Yes it is. It is true and reliable. The electronics on my Masterbuilt 30 are not so reliable. After the Mods I've to my smoker, I wouldn't trade it for any of the high dollar ones.
