X's and O's of LSU vs Alabama

I spoke to my Stepfather, a now retired long time high school coach in Baton Rouge, about this game and here are some of his insights.
- LSU shouldn't even try to establish a run game, rather establish the pass first, and maybe go back to it later in the game for balance.
-Bama's secondary is the weakness of their team. No big insight there, but to slow the blitz packages down, LSU will need to use screen passes early and often to keep them honest. Also expects Mett to get sacked 3-5 times, sacks are better than interceptions. In theory anyway.
-D should sell out to stop the run game of Bama and make them one dimensional. Even if the secondary gives up a few big plays, that's better than the alternative.
-LSU should be able to find some Bama weaknesses with two weeks to prepare and their weak slate thusfar possibly covering up what might be seen on tape and such.
Fairly generic stuff...thoughts?

Mostly agree but we absolutely have to establish some form of ground game. If we don't, they will just tee off on Mett.

Completely disagree. Hill is one of if not your best player. You don't just take him out of the gameplan.

I wouldn't abandon the run early, but I would come out in more 3 WR sets instead of power formations. We can still run from this set and it should spread the defense. I do think it's important to break tendencies early in the game.
If we can't run the ball somewhat, it'll be a long day.

Sounds like HE has it all figured out and should replace Miles before next Saturday.

It would be better if he could throw the ball away before he gets sacked.
I know it is easy to say - hard to do.

Sounds good to me but I don't think I've seen a successful screen pass all season. Maybe they've been working on them in practice or something.

3-5 sacks? Alabama is one of the worse in the sec in sacks. They rank 100 with 11 on the season. LSU has 20 and is ranked 22nd.

Disagree that LSU should not try. This OL and JH33 ran well on them last year and they are not as good as last year. Pretty much agree with the rest.
One weakness Bama has is their untested team and mindset. They have got to have some doubt in their minds because they know they have not had any tough games and they have not looked that good against their cupcake schedule so if we can get in to the back half of the game with the lead or even we can get in their head...

Pass no more then 15 times, Run the ball up the middle, make them unable to stop you, lock them down defensively oh and don;t fricking play prevent defense with 1 mintues and 30 second left on the clock!

I do agree with this.
It's essentially what they did to us in the BCS championship game...........and we were not prepared for it, even though we still basically held them to field goals all game.
If we come out establishing the pass FIRST, they'll probably not be ready for that.

Hill and Magee have to have the best games of their career if LSU is to win this game.

flea flicker to soften them up right up front

I think you also have to predict what our offensive strengths are that Saban is going to try to take away and how are we going to respond if he is successful.
What are his offensive strengths that we have to take away and how is he going to respond if we are successful?
Les has played Saban about 6 times. I think he probably has a good feel for how Saban thinks and coaches. The 1st string talent mismatch isn't that big. I think our biggest problem is defensive depth. Our 1st string defense needs to force bama to punt 4 or 5 times.

I am assuming he meant LSU needs to pass to setup the run, which I totally agree with and that's what LSU has been successful at all year up until we changed it up and tried to run to setup the pass.
Power formations on 1st down have got to go. They are good for picking up 1 or 2 yards, but not on 1st down. Keep 2 or 3 WR sets, make Bama think pass every down. Run Hill right at them.
Completely disagree about the defense. Selling out to stop the run game is a terrible idea considering how our secondary play has been. Unfortunately the defense has been so bad it's hard to think of a good scheme to stop Bama. Anthony Johnson needs to step up and have the game of his life.

95% of Bamas offense is run, play action pass to running backs and tight ends. Screen passes, short passes, draws. They run their wide receivers down field and throw little dink snd dunk passes. That'd how they beat everybody,

I agree with pass FIRST. No way to win unless we do this, imho.
Agree on the screen passes although I think he means his first short option be that a screen, an outlet to the rb or a quick ou/in to the TE. As for sacks. my theory is that Mett can't plant on his knee, and that he has a knee issue so I expect four sacks.
I TOTALLY agree with this. And yet I think it's futile. We are screwed either way. I say we pin our hopes on making them pass and most of all PHYSICALLY PUNISHING AJ GOLDENHAIR. I want him on his arse. Penalties, late hits, cheap shots be damned. Punishing him is JOB ONE. I want Micah Eugene, Kwon Alexander et al to HURT him. I want the announcers to make a big deal about it and ask if its ethical.
I would throw in the Les/LSU desperation factor. I expect balls to the wall-RISK/REWARD type plays. A fake punt, an onside kick, over the top on 3rd and one, that sort of thing.
