re: Why aren't student tickets free as they once were?

They started taking money over twenty five years ago, so that will not change, and the student sections got pushed farther into the NEZ areas for more bucks for the sideline seats at about the same time. The band had its primo seats taken away a few years ago, which is probably why the music selection has been changed(stupid students in front of live mikes).

we won a bcs title. You cant just give away tickets to 20k people that may want to go. You cant charge it in tuition either cus people who want to go, wouldnt necessarily have a seat. I think they are doing it rt this time around. You dont even have to buy all the tickets. When i went it was all or nothing. And unless you were up there in credit hours, it was very hard to get tickets.

You re right with clipping the ID I just looked. Did I really look that way 40 years ago?

I started in '04 and couldn't get tickets as a freshman due to demand after the '03 championship. My sophomore year it was $7 a ticket for normal student section, but I had group seating with my fraternity. It was basically student section with reserved seats. I paid a bit more for those tickets, so I don't know what the price was by the time I left. They definitely made it a lot more difficult in the years that I was there. Hell, you used to be able to get 2 tickets in the greek section.

I've seen a lot of speculation as to what went on. I am not certain but when I attended as a freshman in 1980 they simply punched our IDs. People often sat 3 in 2 seats worth of space but my recollection is that there was an organized student group protesting the portion of the activity fee that was included in everyone's fees dedicated to athletic events since they did not attend any athletic events at all. The general consensus at the time was the "free" attendance of games was doomed.

I left LSU after that year and finished my college career an hour west of Baton Rouge, permanently ruined for any other college football experience. I only attended 1 game at my alma matter as a student, it just didn't measure up, I did manage to go to a couple of LSU games in that time though.

Now it's worse.

No SEC game can be upgraded

$7 was a bargain then and it still is at $12. I think LSU should raise it to $20 per ticket and do away with the greek tickets.

There are 14,400 student tickets each year.

5,000 go to greek/student organization.
9,400 go to the general student populace

Most students who want tickets generally get tickets. Freshman are usually allotted 3-4 games per year.

Several yrs ago they implemented the plan to allow upgrades for every game except one designated game (FL/Bama). It worked out okay. Now LSU has made it you cant upgrade a ticket for a guest for any SEC games. So if you have a friend coming in town you either try to find regular tickets for you and your friend or don't go to the game and your ticket goes to waste.

A cheap ticket price, rules such as no upgrades, and treated like a prisoner entering the stadium has many students saying screw it go watch the game back at the tailgate.

False. Greek seating is a part of a section of the stadium called "group seating" which also includes some of the athletes' families seating, and a whole lot more other student organizations besides greek.
