Best Philly in New Orleans?

I just moved here and have only tried Nino's and Liberty. I thought Nino's was definitely better because they were more straight forward. I respect a place like Liberty trying to think outside the box but you wind up with crap sometimes when you get away from what works. I don't even think the sandwich I got had bellpeppers on it. So, what are some more good philly places in nola? It is one of my favorite things to eat and it is a staple in my lunch rotation.

Southern Philly at Ha/f Moon.

There are no good philly cheese steaks in NOLA. I am always disappointed.

If not a Tuesday, Liberty Cheesesteaks on Freret is passable...

I'm confused by this: Liberty is a pretty damn straight ahead cheesesteak joint. One of the owners is a Philly guy. Green peppers are emphatically NOT part of the Philly cheesesteak canon. So are you looking for a whatever-you-want-on-your-cheesesteak joint, or are you looking for hardcore Philly style?

Every Philly I've ever had has had green peppers before I had one from Liberty. Guess I never had a traditional philly before.

This, and they offer onions optional? Furthermore, I know that siracha mayo and cheese wiz don't come on a traditional philly. I realize you can get a plain one from Liberty but they just seem like they are trying to be too progressive. Its works sometimes(Dat Dog across the street) but sometimes it just turns me off. That's why I said the plain straight up cheesesteak I had at Nino's destroyed the plain(no pepper) cheesesteak I had at Liberty.

Wait, what? WTF is a traditional philly then?

Yep, wiz is the real deal, along w/no peppers.

Okay, I read up on it on wiki. Apparently, wiz is a popular favorite in philly but was introduced a long time after the philly was invented.

If this is traditional, I don't want one.

wiz is disgusting, however, on a philly it is outstanding and can't be matched.

I'm gonna go back and try one with wiz. Its gonna be on Tuesday at Steins though. Their menu and website looks like that place is frickin amazing.

Stein's is well worth a visit, even on non-cheesesteak Tuesdays. For the cheesesteak, Stein's uses Amoroso bakery bread, which is what Philly folks swear by.

Last time i went to Liberty I got it w/ Wiz and the garlic sauce and it was pretty damn tasty. Try it next time.
