Payton was good for maybe 1 win... maybe 2. However, unless he's a LB or DB and a really good one at that, the Saints D will still struggle this year. And I'm not even saying that to be a typical Falcons fan... just look at facts:
1) New D Coordinator
2) New D scheme
3) Stats wise one of the worst defenses in the league, ever, last year will not turn around and be a top 20 D over just 1 year. Not with 1 and 2 listed above.

You did get some solid draft picks and FA pickups in the offseason but KV is still young and doesn't even appear to be the starter atm.

Saints will win 9 games this year.

We both did this in recent history, and both of us went 13-3, but only one of us...well you know.

You are reasoning with someone who listens to what the media says about us and doesn't actually look at the facts.

This is not anything like last year's defense at all. Not even close. To say they will be terrible based on last year is as silly as thinking the falcounts would actually make the super bowl in new orleans.

Now if you want to argue that our OLBs are an unknown and that our secondary is suspect outside of Greer and Vaccaro that's fine. Any other comparison to last year is unwarranted. Hell Harper has looked better this preseason than he has since at least 09.

Yall cut all of yalls players from last year and signed brand new players for every position?

Honestly, from where I'm looking, Harper is playing slightly below average; and Jenkins is playing about average.

Jenkins' coverage so far has been a bit better than Harper's (who has had fewer snaps).

I'm not sure what to make of it.
I guess we'll see how this goes as we enter the season.

So let me get this straight. I can't compare this years D to last years D even but Saints fans can compare having 2 coincidental things (new d coord and new d scheme) to the 2009 Super Bowl year?
Yep - I'm the one without reason, got it. Also, your over-use of the word Falcount is rather childlike.

Harper hasn't blown any assignments that I've noticed(whereas I saw Jenkins routinely out of place, taking bad angles, and making horrible dive tackles).

Harper has been giving up passes but they've been in tight coverage. And by tight I mean he was literally touching them but he never turns to find the damn ball. If he could do that he'd actually be playing better than everyone in the backfield not named Greer or Vaccaro.

I'm really curious who ends up being right on all our subjects as the season progresses.

Your eyeball test vs. my stats.

Honest.

I'm not the one doing that. It looks pretty but has no bearing on this season. I completely agree.

Oh and I hate the failcons so I'll continue to use whatever the frick I want when addressing them. Just saying.

So your saying that your offense could actually be really shitty, since we can use the previous year to look into this year?

Definitely!

And any ill will I have towards you is strictly based on your fanhood. It's personal but it's not "person"al.

You can say whatever you want. But we have a lot of the same guys and same system on offense and with the return of Payton should look more like the 09-11 teams and not last year's team.

On defense a ton of stuff has changed(just like you guys changed a ton last year) so to bring up worst defense of all time and think this is just the same thing is foolish.

You can with a lot of the personnel, but there has been new talent brought in, and some old under-performing players are gone.

I'd actually be worried if we would have kept Spags. It would have taken years to get the personnel to run his system, and by then it might have been too late.

Last year we ran most zone. This year we're running mostly press man.

Last year we relied on our front four for our pass rush. This year we're relying on the linemen being disruptive, shooting the gaps and allowing our blitzers to attack.

It'll be up and down I imagine. We'll see if it's good enough for a deep playoff run.

The Falcons are going 6-10. You heard it here first.

Even though you think the roster has the making of being equally as successful (or better!) than last year, it is super difficult to replicate the same chemistry, stay healthy, and get the same breaks.

Likely storylines from the 2013 season:

1. The Falcons DL & OL has issues that will haunt them all season.
2. The new secondary will be a sieve.
3. Steven Jackson will under-perform like Corey Dillon did for the Pats in his last two seasons there.
4. Turnovers will almost double from last years results.
5. Forcing turnovers from opponents will drop dramatically.
6. Penalties will increase from mental mistakes after a few losses rack up.
7. A star will suffer a season-ending injury, and/or one will seriously disappoint.
8. The offense will put up plenty of meaningless stats but mostly from playing catch-up.
9.The Falcons won't get the same breaks, you know those little things that add up (like getting calls, balls bouncing the right way, etc)
10. Miracle endings (like in the Seattle game) won't materialize. Ryan gonna Ryan.

If you don't follow CFB, I suggest you start now, and but specifically watch for seniors and possible juniors that will help you in 2014. At least, that source of hope will make your weekends entertaining.

DL will be a little better this year IMO. Not because of replacing Abe but the other players will be better. But Steven Jackson under performing?

It's not out of the realm of possibility. He has a lot of mileage on him. Teams usually don't let star players get away unless they know they're on the decline. You guys let Michael Turner go for that same reason.

He barely makes 800 yards this year. Probably 3.8 yards per carry. Bookmark this.

Whether it's age, injury, an inconsistent OL, or a combination of all the above, Steven Jackson will not be your running game savior.

It is hard to consider a man on the decline when he just had his 8th straight season of 1000 yards rushing. He might not have that this year, but he will make up for it in receiving yards.
