I wouldn't put 4 of the greatest cities in the world in Australia and 3 in Canada, for god's sake. At least put a bit of diversity on the list.

Been to two, Sydney and Auckland. Both, IMO, are incredible. Both offer great weather year round, very diversified cultural experiences, safety, entertainment, job growth, good to great standards of living, and quick access to some of the most beautiful places in the world. Auckland in particular.

Especially if you have Yellow Fever.

They don't allow citizens to carry guns.

I guess that's one of them.

Website sucks. Can you list them?

Sounds way too anglocentric.

Historically, no way should more than one city in Canada or Australia be on such a list.

4 in Canada, 3 in Australia, Helsinki, Vienna, Auckland.

Or maybe it was 4 in Australia and 3 in Canada... either way.

Yeah, any such list that doesn't include Paris, London, New York, or Tokyo, is pretty much nothing but a troll job.

re: Top 10 cities in the world

I've always wanted to go to Melbourne. Vancouver is a pretty awesome place, but you think that BR road system was poorly thought out? BR has nothing on Vancouver.

Keep in mind that this is a British publication, so of course the majority of the cities are going to be in places that still pledge allegiance to the Queen. (All but two cities on the list I believe).

Wouldn't mind going to Helsinki just for the women.

ETA: Surprised Hong Kong isn't on there.

I understand that. It still said "10 BEST Cities in the World."

Basically, to me, it just looks like a list of the 10 most pleasantly sterile big cities in the world. There's more to being a great city than just being a pleasantly nice place to live. A lot of what makes a great city, has to do with history and culture (shit, I just set off Slow's bat signal).

That being said, my point stands. I wouldn't put Jakarta, Mumbai, or Manila on the list and they're in the top 10 biggest (although, I could make an argument that any one of those belong over FOUR Australian cities).

re: Top 10 cities in the world

To be fair, it does actually say "10 best cities in the world to live in," so I guess I somewhat stand corrected. I would still contend it's much too anglocentric, and more leans to what someone under the Queen's flag would find appealing more than anything.

If that was the case, then no city in the western hemisphere stacks up against almost anywhere in Europe and Asia.

its bull shite..why would half the world be cutting their right nuts off to move to the USA if we didn't have any cities worth being 'top 10'?

I said "a lot," not everything. New York still needs to be on such a list.

cases can be made for Portland, San Francisco, Austin, Miami, NYC, Boulder.

ETA: If crime was below the national average in new orleans, it too would have a very strong case against Vancouver IMO.
