Well supposedly this is not about him profiting, as there's no proof. This is about him not preventing others to profit.

Again, from SECR:

quote:

Title:12.5.2.2 - Use of a Student-Athlete's Name or Picture Without Knowledge or Permission. If a student-athlete's name or picture appears on commercial items (e.g., T-shirts, sweatshirts, serving trays, playing cards, posters) or is used to promote a commercial product sold by an individual or agency without the student-athlete's knowledge or permission, the student-athlete (or the institution acting on behalf of the student-athlete) is required to take steps to stop such an activity in order to retain his or her eligibility for intercollegiate athletics. Such steps are not required in cases in which a student-athlete's photograph is sold by an individual or agency (e.g., private photographer, news agency) for private use. (Revised: 1/11/97, 5/12/05)

According to the thread on the SEC Rant, they got him on the rule (paraphrasing) where he should have prevented someone else from profiting from his likeness or something like that. No proof on him protifing directly.

I guess as long as its the NCAA profitting off his likeness its cool. A joke on so many levels

just shows its perfectly fine to accept money as long as its cash and no one talks. The fact that dez got 10 games for telling a lie about a legal lunch with primetime and Johnny hancock get half a game is a joke

Exactly

I hope to God the big 5 Conferences separate from the NCAA and start their own league.

So he can sign 5000 autographs which he knew people would profit off of. Dez Bryant has a lunch and AJ Green sells ONE jersey and both get literally 10x more punishment.

Honestly, I would have preferred no punishment over this.

This is a joke.

The NCAA essentially just said "If you are a Heisman winning or caliber QB, we dont give a flying frick what you do. If you are any other player of a lesser position or caliber then we will frick you."

And you'd have to be a moron to believe that.

Plus, how is it any less against the rules for players to bring in money for their family/friends than it is to collect it for themselves?

If im Clowney, im signing autographs outside the stadium and letting mom handle the transactions on the side. I'll take the half game suspension for mom making more in a few hours than she would all year, otherwise.

I never said it made sense. I just said it's incorrect to say he (officially) got suspended for being paid for his autographs.
