UO, Q1 multiplayer, CS pre steam, A Link to the Past, OOT, SM64. This period of time covers my greatest gaming days. Late 90s to mid 00s.

To go even further back my first pc games ever were wolfenstein 3d and doom. I put a lot of hours into those. Also I played a lot of starcraft, big game hunters anyone? I lived for the old text based game gemstone when it was on AOL.

Pre- expansion exEQ1 for me as well... Naggy on a timer to get my COF, and once expansions started coming out, raiding frogs in kunark for fungi tunic, and my 24+ hour Raster camp for epic. frick those shits who had 3 pops to get him to spawn.

Majora's Mask. My very first Zelda game, had no clue what I was doing, but I knew it was a very special game I was playing that would never be done again. I'm really hoping for remake where they double the size of the world.
Also Mario 64. That game blew my mind and thought at the time it looked entirely real.

There are many but one of the first games that popped into my head was Starflight for the Sega Genesis (a console remake).
This was basically Mass Effect before Mass Effect existed. I remember this game consuming every waking thought for nearly a month. It came with a big fold-out star map and a log you could read of the previous captain who tried your mission and failed. (It was really sort of a hint guide but 11 year old me didn't realize that at the time.)
My dad and I played it for hours and hours until we beat it. I wish I could go back in time and play it again for the first time.

Freespace 2. You spend a lot of time fighting alongside the seemingly-invicible GTVA Colossus, only for the Shivans to unleash an even mightier capital ship that easily mops the floor with it, and then you realize the Shivans had tens of thousands of similar ships. You just felt so hopeless, and the final mission of the game has you and your allies running for your lives. Very unique ending.

In order
Beating pokemon red the first time (had about 5 people watching. Was the first one of my friends to beat it)
Beating OoT the first time
Beating Jet Force Gemini (took forever)
All of red dead redemption
The first time I saw every enemy in shadow of the colossus

Metal Gear, COD4, Bloody Roar, Goldeneye, America's Army, this PC space game that I played like 20+ years ago , Twilight 2000 (also 20 year old PC game), Command and Conquer, and there was a game that came out for PS or PS2 that was like anime/RPG/FPS that had three characters two guys and a girl it was like a two disc long as frick gameplay. I remember me and my friends would take turns playing it. We thought we finally beat the game and then it said insert disc two.

Another one of those games that consumed me as soon as I started it until I finished it. Then I played through it again with some sequence breaks.
Still one of my best gaming memories.

The last boss kicked my arse a few times (read somewhere around a dozen)

Is anyone else like me where they have trouble getting consumed now because of responsibilities and growing up which sucks

Part of the reason I stay up so late. Wife is asleep, daughter's asleep, I can actually run a game without having to pause it every 5 minutes.

Yes that and the gameplay doesn't seem to be near as long on the newer console games. I remember playing 20+ hour games.
