Let's Rank Teams Definitively Better Than Us

-San Antonio

-Golden State
-LAC

-Denver
The Pelicans would come in at either 7th or 8th on this list for me. I wouldn't be shocked to see teams like San Antonio, Denver, and Memphis struggle though. The Spurs are getting older, and part of me believes that this season was their last gasp. Denver and Memphis, while talented, both are going through head coaching changes. Denver may not retain the services of Andre Iguodala.
I expect the Pelicans to be in the playoff hunt this year with their upside as high as the 4th seed, but I think the magic happens the year after. Davis will be entering his 3rd season, which is the turning point for most NBA players, and the other guys will have been with one another for over a year. Pretty exciting times if you ask me.
Thoughts?

I question Denver. They will be thinner at center losing Koufos and shouldn't Galinari miss most of the season? Also we have yet to see what Golden State will look like. It could end up Steph Curry, Dwight Howard and David Lee. Even if the don't get Dwight they won't be as deep.

Yeah Galinari will miss a very large chunk of the season, if not all of it.

I almost forgot about Koufos being traded. I don't think Javale McGee will ever put it all together. That front court with him and Kenneth Faried isn't scaring any offense or defense really.

As of today? Golden State, Houston and Denver aren't definitely better than us. Now if GS or Houston lands Howard then they get significantly better.

OKC
SAS
MEM
LAC
All better.
Denver
They will take a step back with Gallo out and no Karl, but they should be better.
HOU
GS
Obviously Dwight can change things, but these teams won 47 and 45 games. Thats about where I think the Pels end up.

Just a thought: I would like to see Darius Miller get a chance to be our SF. If he develops properly, he's certainly a 3&D guy. Just needs to stop putting that back foot out of bounds because he's got a very nice stroke from long range. A tandem of Miller and a re-signed Aminu is pretty solid to me. Plus it allows us to spend a little more for a bigger C if we want one.

Guess I should have said WC teams better than us.
Also, I don't think Utah is better than us at all. They're interesting, but not better.

You guys were the fricking 8 seed. Don't act like you were the Heat.
Golden State is definitely better than us, though.

And Houston's MO last season was either shoot the 3 or get to the rim, ie be as efficient as possible. If they don't get Dwight they'll probably sign Josh Smith who will single handedly derail the efficient way they try to play.

You were the 8th seed and havent made any moves yet. What am I missing?

I think they were looking only at the Western Conference, chief.
1)OKC
2)San Antonio
3)Clippers
4)Memphis
5)Houston
6)Golden State
...
Pelicans should be contending for the 7th or 8th seed.

I agree. If the Rockets don't get Dwight and settle on Josh Smith, then they don't really get any better. If anything they'll stay about the same.

It is too tough to tell right now.
As of now the pelicans don't have a Small Forward or a Center.
Golden State is likely losing Jarrett Jack and either David Lee or Bogut could be on the move.
The Lakers are in trouble if Howard moves on.
Houston is barely a playoff team if they don't sign Howard.
If Denver loses out on Iggy then they are in BIG trouble as well especially since Gallinari will be out for part of the season and they fired George Karl. They could also lose Corey Brewer.
And it doesn't seem as though any of these teams helped themselves too much in the draft.

quote:I think the Spurs will still have a good shot at getting back to the finals next year. Parker is going to still be great, Duncan's game doesn't really rely on athleticism so his age isn't a factor, and I can see Leonard playing close to an all star level next year.
The Spurs are getting older, and part of me believes that this season was their last gasp.
Manu's game has fallen dramatically, but I'm sure he won't play as many minutes. I think the Spurs and OKC with a healthy Westbrook have the best shot at getting to the Finals from the West. Pels could be 7-8 seed and would likely play one of those teams in the 1st round

But a small upgrade at PG and adding Evans makes the Pelicans a much better team?
