Correct. They had the right idea and policy but did it a piss poor job letting the consumers in on it.

Are you people insane? Nowhere else on the internet can you find a single person defending the draconian anti-consumer DRM bull they tried to pull. Oh yay, you had to sell your soul in order to not have to have the disk in the tray and access your games anywhere. Maybe you could be an adult about it, put your discs back in the case when you were done so they never get scratched and just take them with you if you want to play somewhere else. Jesus.
I was probably going to get an x1 before this too, now I just feel a hell of a lot better about it, and can look forward to actually playing with friends because now some of them will surely get it as well. The fairly widespread acceptance here of the prior insulting policies (roundly condemned the world over) makes me seriously question the sanity of all of you.
Whatever, at the end of the day you're mad and I'm far from it

Agreed

In regards to change, Microsoft went in dry. I think they will use this moment to lube up and try again later.
It's not something they would need to change physically to the console itself, so it's totally open to them. Sony might consider it down the road also in spite of their "one-up" move at E3.

I don't understand why everyone is saying we can just kiss the possible Microsoft Steam Model goodbye.
We all know digital downloads are trending and will be the only option in the future. This is a safer more user friendly way of cutting out the Middle Man (GameStop, GameSpot, Walmart) than just restricting DRM via no borrowing, no trading in, no used game sells. In 5 years when all games can be digitially downloaded, then you cut out the middle man, and have complete control of the prices.
no???
I have no problem with it being done by lowering the pricing of digital first, to push out the disc product. But to force DMR and not lower prices out of the get go was wrong.

Microsoft is trying to win back some of the short sighted consumers. They still have the DRM thing ( I don't know what to call it) in the back of their mind, but people aren't ready for it to be implemented 100%. It needs to be done in segments. The masses are stupid, KK.

we really don't know that, they could just leave the price as is cut out the middle man and make more money

So much for Microsoft "pushing the Industry forward"

I don't want to have to deal with a disc at all. I want to sit down and play. I plan on having my console up and hidden out of the way.

1. I have no need to play them anywhere else.
2. If I did, I would not want to carry my discs around with me. Am I supposed to buy one of these for my games so I can carry them ?

People are dumb but MS is partly to blame for this mess. There was so much misinformation out there and they did a terrible job of getting out in front of it. The casual idiot isn't going to take the time to sift through what's true or not.

Honestly, I'm quite surprised by this.
Microsoft heard the complaints from consumers, but it doesn't appear that the complaints were the sole cause of this change. People have been complaining incessantly for almost a month now.
I imagine the relatively paltry pre-order numbers were the likely impetus for this change. I wouldn't be surprised if the PS4 was outselling the Xbox One at a 3 to 1 one margin. Now that the "DRM" stigma has been removed, I think that pre-orders for the One will skyrocket. Granted, it's still $100 more, but I doubt the PS4 pre-orders will continue to outpace those for the One by such a significant margin.

I agree with that. It seemed like a lot of people here were saying that the system was good because it would lead the way to lower game prices by cutting out the used game market and the middle man.

they could, but that sort of ignorance is what will have your company in the shitter in no time.
M$ has been around for a long long fricking time, been dominate throughout, and I don't see them going anywhere any time soon, so I'd be willing to bet this wouldn't be the case.

Rumors were 5 to 1 and no I do not have a link. Saw it on Reddit awhile back but didn't want to post because it wasn't fact.
