Fabian Johnson should stay on the left wing rather than sliding back to left back. He looks every bit like a viable left wing option long term, and Edgar Castillo is coming off an outstanding year with Club Tijuana and has earned the chance to start at left back.

Castillo sucks. He might be my least favorite national team player. I might rather sliding Fab down to LB for this game only and plugging in GAM or even fricking Brad Davis if need be at LM.

With what is going on with Honduras, I would be ok with this for this game, and see how it goes.

By no means do I think Beasley should be our starting LB in the World Cup, so I'd rather give shots to other options.

I'm not buying this. He's had a few bad, ok terrible, outings for the US, but everything I've read says that he's highly valued in Liga MX, and he's consistently been one of the Xolos best players.

There's a pretty small sample size in regards to his play for the Screamin' Eagle's.

This is where I am. Although I do recall Castillo did pretty good defending up in Azteca (same can be said for the rest of CONCACAF)

With Honduras in disarray, I'd rather a more offensive line up with FJ and EJ on the left.

Disagree. Castillo is a weaker version of Beasley and nothing I've ever seen from him in a USA kit has suggested to me he can be a defender at the international level. For me, if he's going to play I'd prefer it to be on the left wing.

I agree.

I'm not sold on the idea (of Castillo as a viable option at left-back), but continuity is fine.

I really think that we can make a starting XI of soccer board-ers and still beat the team that Honduras will be fielding tomorrow.

The left-back problem is not going away. There's no natural #1 option. Seems the best case scenario for the WC is a Beasley/Chandler combo at this point. If Dolo is ready to roll in Brazil, play Chandler on the left.

Cameron's versatility allows JK to not bother with carrying extra defenders he'd never play, if all the top options are healthy. Cameron can play CB, RB and DM, so maybe the 23 only has 6 defenders by trade in it (Gonzo, Besler, Dolo, Cameron, Chandler and CB to be named later)?

Or we could play Lichaj... He's looked good there in the past, even if he's not a natural LB I'm sure he's better than Castillo.

Jurgen pretty much never brings in Lichaj though, right?

How many minutes do you think Lichaj played for Villa this year. I'd be surprised if he amassed 90 over the course of the entire BPL season.

Just saying. I do think he should get a call. Jurgen says it's about club form, but he's shown a willingness to call guys into camp who aren't seeing regular minutes.

Sometimes I feel like we latch on to guys as potential solutions when it's not realistic because the coach doesn't really like them. Lichaj may never be an option under jurgen.

You clearly weren't watching the BPL very closely this year. LINK
He had 17 games played and 1160 minutes played in the BPL. Not great, but far more than you are giving him credit for. Most of these minutes came at the end of the season.

When did you start following the USMNT? Under BB Lichaj played pretty well and rightfully had a starting spot in the 2011 GC final.

From the AV website:

INTERESTING FACT

Eric Lichaj grew a Movember moustache in November 2012, impressing his team-mates with a handsome handlebar effort.
