It's a two-legged tie, we aren't going to be playing defensive football at the Bridge. Only half of the 'game' will be 'boring' football.

Plus, why the frick would he want to deploy tactics exactly how Atletico would want Chelsea to play, especially without our best player? It makes zero sense to try to beat Atleti at their own game in their home stadium.

You can't really compare a league match to a CL semifinal unless we parked the bus for both legs.

As for the lineup next week, I would like to see

Schwarzer
Ivan Cahill Luiz Azpi
Rami Van Ginkel
Willian Oscar Hazard
Eto'o

or could start Cole at LB with Luiz in the midfield, Azpi on right, Ivan in the middle, and bring MvG on for Cole later in the game if we need more players in the attack.

That's not Atletico's game. They've become more expansive over time, but they would have loved to hang out and let the game come to them.

I would hope to hell that Mourinho would know better than to try to go after Atletico in a game like that since he lost a cup final, at home, with superior attacking talent by going after Atletico last year.

I think that's exactly what we'll do. Not to the obvious extent of last week but if you're expecting us to come out assaulting their goal I think you're mistaken. We will try to win 1-0 on a set piece or individual brilliance. Home or away Jose can't like the prospect of us scoring twice on them which is what we'll have to do if we concede.

My money is Roman since he isn't afraid to fire anyone.

I know. That's what I'm saying. Atletico wanted Chelsea to come in and try to attack.

Gabi said this earlier in the week, which was quite funny: "If Chelsea give us the ball, we'll instantly give it back to them (laughs)."

Why would we play van Ginkle? The guy hasn't played a meaningful minute this season since coming over from Vitesse,

He did have some minutes before his injury. But anyways, he was on the bench today and with Lampard, Mikel, Matic all ineligible for one reason or another, we don't really have many other options. Especially with Terry out injured, thus likely forcing David Luiz back into a CB role.

Swartz
Ivonovic Cahill Luiz Azpi
Mikel Ramires
Willian Oscar Hazard
Eto'o

Schurrle and Ba come off the bench.

Mikel plays pure DM role to help the back line when Luiz inevitably goes nuts going forward. Ramires let's the game be played through him. Willian and Hazard stretch the field wide. Oscar orchestrates some creativity.

Mikel is suspended.

For me it's got to be Luiz with Ramires in the midfield and Ivan moving over to CB.

I don't want Luiz at CB (one mistake can end it) or van Ginkel on the field at all.

Aussie
Azpi Cahill Ivan Cole
Ramires Luiz

It would be about freaking time.

Did he accumulate too many yellows? I missed this.

That works for me. I am not a fan of Luiz at CB because he is so unpredictable. Losing Terry is a killer in this situation.

Ramires leaves a lot to be desired, but I don't think we have a good alternative at this point.

No, he threw an elbow at Larsson during the match, that the ref didn't catch... charged with violent conduct (3 games) and an extra since he is just coming off a three match ban

I know Ramires got the ban. I was asking about Mikel. Thanks, Dandy.
