Which incident surprised you more/upset you more.

Ned
Last night

Eta:book readers feel free to state which was more traumatic in books as well. Just no spoilers. This is a friendly poll meant to unify the kingdom.

ned. show broadcasted RW too much and didn't develop robb and cat enough to be really likable imo

Ned. Also didn't help that the Red Wedding was spoiled for me before I got to read it.

at the point of ned you really thought he was gonna be the main character for the entire series. Didnt really think they would ax the two ( or two of) the main characters in a matter of weeks

At that point you figured it to go typical nice guy wins and barely sneaks out of sticky situations constantly

Ned for sure. It took me actually seeing his head on a pike before I believed it was true.

Catelyn Stark and even Robb started to piss me off towards the end, so I wasn't really that bummed about it.

Ned. Although the fact that the show is so sadistic as to kill ned stark twice made Talisa's murder poignant (however the bodies dropping dead renaissance-tragedy-style was pretty humorous imo).

I wasn't fully entrenched in the series til book three. therefore RW was much harder to take.

this is why i feel a little disappointed. i knew this would be the case with a lot of people.

also, with ned, you didn't know that GRRM just murders without remorse at the time

Absolutely Ned. I had no idea what to expect from this show at the time, and it just blew me away.

last night but i think its just because its fresh. im sure if i rewatched season 1 id say Ed because we all know that was shocking as can be.

just the mass killings of last night made it shocking including the wife and unborn child and wolf.

sad. poor Ned and Cat

exactly. At this point for nonbook readers you realize that no one is safe. even though it does shock you, you still kinda expected something to happen

As a reader, I can see how the killing off of Ned had more of an effect on the Hodors. The TV really did a poor job of developing Robb as a character that would be missed. Ned was really protrayed as the main character. Robb was more of an also ran.

Ned. I knew absolutely nothing of the GOT series and figured Ned was going to be part of the saga for a long while.

Ned upset me more but brought about the full potential of that little shite Joffery. Although I hate him, he brings so much to the story.

Last night was shocking but there was no other side balance.

Ned. I didn't think they would kill off the main character in the book/show in the first season/book.

The Red Wedding was a shocker, but the precedent had been set. No one is safe. Valar Morghulis.
