Never been to Charleston before and going over the Memorial Day weekend. Only going to be there for 1 day. Looking for 2-3 good restaurants...not fancy..just good solid food. Possibly one meat and three type place and one seafood place. Downtown area. Thank you. GEAUX TIGERS!!!

I've only been to Charleston once, so others will be much more helpful. We ate Hominy Grill and Hank's Seafood. Everyone was happy with his/her meal at both places.

You have to hit up McCrady's and/or Husk. Sean Brock is the Chef/Owner of both. He makes amazing Southern food.

I ate there last weekend and I had my doubts but it turned out to be very good
I have yet to try the fancier places like FIG and SNOB because you absolutely need reservations or you will wait for 4 hours. No joke.

Toast is a nice breakfast spot downtown. Also got bottomless mimosas which is nice. South End Brewery is also pretty casual and nice. Its a restaurant inside a brewery. Tatooed Moose. Not quite downtown but close. Really good spot. Kinda funny crowd but great food. There are plenty of nice restaurants downtown but those are some good casual spots IMO. Have fun, Charlestons a great spot.

Poogan's Porch was excellent and priced below most of the others. Biscuits were really good and this was amazing,
"Duck Confit Grilled Cheese 12.95
Pimiento cheese, duck confit, crispy bacon, sliced red tomato, sourdough bread"
Very greasy, but oh so worth the mess.
McCrady's was good, but real expensive and the portion wasn't that that big.
Also, High Cotton was good, especially the pecan pie.
Charleston's food scene is great... second only to New Orleans.

I've been to Hominy, Cypress, Magnolia and High Cotton in Charleston and they were all solid. Great town.

Exactly and not sure if you got the cheese fries... Amazing. The duck confit was so good.

Two nice places are FIG & The Macintosh if your going to bother with Husk or McCrady's
For seafood try The Ordinary. Unusual name but great local seafood.

Just got back and went to these two after reading this post. They were my favorite two restaurants along with Fat Hen. Also went to Tattooed Moose for the Duck club with the fries and duck fat gravy. Magnolia's grill was really good as well. Hank's was good as well but not quite up to the same par as the others.
Really enjoyed eating out in Charleston.
