re: Only 150 of 3500 colleges worth the investment per William Bennett

I understand that the there are several statistical averages being used here to make a broad point, but to say that someone with a college degree from LSU (or any other similar university) will only average earning about $15K more a year for 30 years than a high school graduate...

South Carolina has entirely too many Hospitality, Poli Sci, and PR majors at our school. Shit's holding us down on this list bc none can get a decent paying job.

It depends on the degree that you earn and how much it costs you. A general studies degree from an expensive private school is a bad investment.

He says elsewhere that going to lower-tier schools is where it becomes important to select a "practical" career-related degree, in which case you're not part of the general problem that he was trying to describe.

Any degree can pay off at the beginning of your career. I was recently in on a hiring decision for the firs time, and we hired a recent USM-Gulf Coast graduate. She took some difficult classes and had an impressive academic record. Turned out to be a home run hire. Without the degree, there wouldn't have been anything to make her resume stand out.

The biggest issue is he only does a 30 yr ROI. If you did a 40 yr ROI it would be a HUGE difference and almost all of the schools would be worth it.

The only two schools I applied to and I got accepted to both,

My wife's school: University of Montevallo @ 1236 (worst public in-state on the list!). My wife must be the sole female graduate not working as a waitress.

30 yr ROI: $-148,000 ...how the, I don't even
