Never been. Know it is Fondue. I heard mixed reviews, I'm not that excited about it. From what I understand you cook your own food and pay $$$$ prices.
For French I would rather Le Crepe Nanou or similar. The gf is excited about it, and really likes it. I have a fondue set at home, and have made some good fondue, but looking at the menu, I'm unprepared for it.

Check your man card at the door. If you get forced to go, you'd better get OT lucky as your reward.

Not forced. I just have two options, don't go or go. Which one will lead to less problems? So I will say nothing, act surprised to try a new place. Even if it is a chain on St. Charles

I've never been, but it strikes me as being a "girl's night out" type of place. Probably because some friends of mine went there for a girls night out.

You have SO many options. It's not even acceptable in BR, and we don't have nearly the choices NO does.

It's great if you're 20. I guess. Chicks love it.

But it's an overpriced chain and kind of crap.

you preaching to the choir. What gets me too, is for the same price I can have dinner at most of the nicer NOLA places.
But.. whoever's birthday it is picks where we eat.

That's the rules.

Overpriced. The food is okay, not great. You go mainly for the experience of cooking your own food...meh. Kind of a novelty thing.

ETA
If it's just you and your girl...and it's her b-day. Just get one of those dinner for twos... More than enough food(actually probably too much food) and you get a little bit of everything.

Don't go if you're paying.

If it's your girlfriend's birthday, and that's her choice, go and just suck up having a bad meal. I doubt you'll ever have a desire to go back.

Personally I think it sucks. If anything, go to dinner someplace else and then go there for dessert.

See if you can talk her into Joe's Crab Shack or Red Lobster, unless you want boiled steak. I hate to waste time and calories on bad food. Don't go....."To Serve Man " is a cookbook.

Le Crepe Nanou

I heard Melting Pot is good for a first date but when we couple date I will steer everyone towards Le Crepe Nanou or Cafe Degas for a relatively inexpensive French dining. Fondue isn't worth the excess prices. Do that shite at the house and spend more on wine.

One of the worst meals I've ever had in my life was at that same location (sister's bday like 5 years ago). I just remember whatever spiky haired joker that was our waiter telling us what to choose. What came out was chicken dumped into a little boiling pot of water to which was added "red wine" and literally an entire handful of cilantro. A HANDFUL OF CILANTRO. So, if chicken breast boiled dry in "red wine" and enough cilantro to make you think you were ingesting a rusting wrought iron balcony fence sounds intriguing, then I encourage you to go.

ETA: I'd go, tell them you got sick and are going to go lie down in the car, and walk down to Ave Pub. If they ask why you're there just say you felt better and didnt want to interrupt.

I pulled that when we went to Chili's one time. Not going to the pub, but leaving to go to the car.

I'm going to go for her, but I'm picking Indian for my birthday in spite, lol. (she hates Indian)

You really think they throw away all that expensive melted chocolate after you leave?

I worked in baton rougdjhe location back in 02-early 04. It's not as horrible as everyone makes it out to be. If anything, it's just overpriced. I got to eat a full meal for slightly more than a Big Mac value meal, so I thought it was incredible.

To pay full price however, I disagree. My wife loves it and most yentas love it. I waited on loads of hot chicks there.

He can't resist a jab.

Anyway..

I was wondering more about recommendations, what to get, what to avoid.

These things are everywhere so someone here knows that they have to have something good.

I was tricked into going there one time. It's not as disgusting as some people suggest, but it's not my cup of tea for sure. And, yeah, it's overpriced. You can suck if up for one meal just fine, though.
