I understand that thought process, but realize it's going to cost you a minimum of about $50K-100K in legal expenses if you end up in court. Depending on the state, you may also end up w/ a felony offense. Having a CCW license will allow you to legally carry your loaded, and easily accessible, weapon in most all the gulf coast states. What you are saying makes perfect sense and is logical. The problem that I, and others, have with this whole issue is that we feel we should have the right to CC without having to get permission to do so. I wonder if the issue would be different if everyone ignored this regulation and stood on constitutional grounds? There's not enough jails to lock us all up. And by giving ground on the right to CC only if you have a permit, we have empowered the anti-gunners by acquiescing to their argument. Yeah, I know. My principles are probably getting in the way again. It's just how I feel, though.

Constitutional carry is the law in Alaska, Vermont, and Arizona. But unfortunately the rest of us have to get permission. Hopefully the lifetime license law passes so that its a 1-time expense in LA.

This thread deals with car carry though, which isn't necessarily CC. But I do still think its dumb to have to pay to keep a handgun available in your car in Alabama. Just another reason to hate the state...

A national CHL was one of the "amendments" of the big background check bill. But obviously it was only to make it look like a gold-covered turd, as it was still ultimately a turd.

I would love national carry as well, as long as they don't try to attach to a shittier bill. It would make traveling much easier, although LA permits are excepted pretty much everywhere in the gulf coast and mid west.

Depends on how I found out about it. As with many things, the totality of the situation decides a lot.

Just for the sake of knowing, Virginia's law concerning carrying a handgun in your vehicle is addressed by Virginia's attorney general:
