I'm looking for a .22lr pistol and was looking for some recommendations. I primarily just want something to have some fun shooting. I'm not executing squirrels or raccoons, although that may happen. I'll hang up and listen
ETA: 4-450?

I got this and love it. PITA to breakdown and clean, but other then that it's damm near perfect. Fairly cheap at right around $300 out the door.

Smith and Wesson M&P .22
Ruger SR22
Ruger Mark III
Ruger 22/45
Browning Buck Mark

My favorites of those are the M&P and the Ruger SR22.

Throw a .22 revolver in there as well. Look at the Ruger single six

I have a Browning Buckmark and have put at least 500+ rounds thru it. Great little pistol for plinking and screwing around.

I have the Walther P22 and have really enjoyed it. It is pretty accurate and feeds about all kinds of ammo. It will get dirty and have some feed issues after about a brick with the Winchester White Box. I think mine likes Remington Gold Bullets and it loves CCI Mini-Mags.

Ruger 22/45 LITE. Includes both a picatinny rail and a threaded barrel to accept a suppressor.

I have one as well but have put ~ 500 bricks through it. Had that little gun for 15-20yrs I think. Absolutely love it.

I think they're around $350-$400.

But the fact that they are suppressor and optics-ready really does it for me. No need to buy other parts, just slap on a sight and submit suppressor paperwork. Then you have a silent squirrel-slayer.

Yep. I have a .22 suppressor. It is nice on a pistol.

The rail for some type of optic is making it a "Buy" for snake season.

1. I'd listen more to the folks who actually own, and have shot a lot of rounds thru, the gun they recommend.

2. I have shot thousands of rounds thru an AACK/Glock 19 combo. But this will only work if you have a Glock (and if you can snag a an AACK). The AACK kit does require 40 grain HV ammo (like CCI MiniMags).

3. I recently bought a Ruger SR22 for the little ones to shoot (those with hands too small for the G19). We haven't shot more than a few hundred rounds thru it, so this isn't a very valid report. But here's what I've seen so far:

* The trigger is a bit stiff (compared to a Glock) -- single action weight is maybe around 6-7 pounds (haven't measured it), and the DA pull is a lot more.

* It cycles very well with any ammo we've shot in it (MiniMags, Federal, Winchester, Aguila HV and Aguila SV).

* Zero stoppages, pretty easy to strip & clean.

* The interchangeable backstraps are a royal PITA to swap.

* Accuracy is decent, but not as good as the AACK.

The Buckmark will shoot almost every round. The only "issue" i noticed is that subsonic rounds and ratshot will not cycle the slide, so when sneaking around in your backyard at night, shooting the ubiquitous rats in your shop, japanese plum tree or eating dogfood, you must be prepared to pull the slide after every shot. make the first shot count, then stay silent so the neighbors will think car backfire and don't call the police.
