Always interesting to hear what people are allergic to.

I'm not allergic to anything that I know of.

Topic sparked because a lady came in to my work the other day and ordered a salad to start. When I brought it out and later came back to check on her, she asked me if I could take it back and get her a new one that doesn't have cucumbers because she is deathly allergic.

I brought one back, but I left the pickle off too because I assumed if she's allergic to cucumbers, she's allergic to pickles too. She told me she is not allergic to pickles, and asked me to bring her one.

I did some Googling, and it seems a cucumber allergy can exist, but more than likely, it's actually an oral allergy to a certain type of pollen where the cucumber may have been grown because cucumbers are 98% water. And even if an allergy to cucumbers exists, it's not at all life-threatening and more like an allergy outdoors.

I wonder now if she actually had the allergy or if she lied because she didn't want to ask me to take back a salad due to her not liking something.

I also knew a girl in early college whose doctor assumed she was allergic to tomatoes when she was very young for whatever reason. Girl went SO overboard. Wouldn't even eat Doritos because they had a tomato-based powder on. Found out at 22 years old that she actually was not allergic to tomatoes, and jumped right in eating spaghetti and stuff once her doctor said so. So odd..

Do you have any food allergies? If so, what are they?

I've never had any major food allergies, but my throat gets itchy and feels like it's closing up a bit when I have something seasoned with Tony Chachere's.

Other brands of seasoned salt don't do it. I have no idea why. Looking at the ingredient list, it's not much different.

I use Slap Ya Mama regularly... but when I have someone else's cooking (or go to a restaurant) that uses Tony C's, it happens every time.

Not that I'm aware. Someone I know suddenly became allergic to oysters. Ate them all of his life and one night he had a scary reaction. Doc confirmed the allergy.

Yes. When served overcooked protein, my blood pressure skyrockets.

Slight gluten and dairy allergies. I can still have them, but if I have too much without balancing it out with veggies/fruits/nuts I wont shite right for a few days.

Very slightly allergic to strawberries. Doesn't happen every time, but once in a while I get a mild case of hives.

Allergic to green peas. Wierd, I know. Also slightly allergic to bananas. Still eat bananas, but I will get itchy in my throat and on my face after one.

I have weird (crazy) dreams when I eat popcorn just before bedtime. Allergic? The wife (MHNBPF) says it's not the popcorn I eat, but how much popcorn I eat that is my problem.

Other than that, No.

Ive noticed eggs having an adverse effect on my innards as I've gotten older. Especially scrambled eggs. I can still eat em, but cant go Jethrow Bodine and knock out the better part of a dozen like I used to could. The ensuing gut wrench would not be worth it.

I have never been tested for allergies, but the last four times I've eaten salmon I threw up. I don't eat salmon anymore.

I know some kids who are allergic to a bunch of stuff. Besides nuts, egg and milk allergies seem to be common for little kids. Two of my friends' kids thankfully "grew" out of it or were eventually able to tolerate milk or eggs. So sweet to see them now able to eat regular ice cream!

Nope, Thank God!

My best friend is allergic to all shellfish. I believe I'd kill myself.

Too much alcohol makes me throw up. Not sure if thats an allergy or just a cash money motto.

I'm very thankful I'm not allergic to shell fish.

Dark beer and red wine mess up my sinuses enough to make it not worth it to drink them. Not sure if that is an allergy or not.

Wow, two pages and no one deathly allergic to peanuts. Seems like there's a kid in every class today that can't eat peanuts.

Also seems like food allergies are more prevalent in kids today than before. I have heard that breastfeeding is supposed to help kids avoid food allergies because they're not exposed to something they aren't ready for. Science is mixed, though.

I'm allergic to Mahi Mahi. Love the fish but I break out in a rash on both fore arms. Itches like hell. My fish monger said it was the extremely high iodine content in the Mahi Mahi.

Nope, no allergies whatsoever and I'm pretty thankful of it. I'm glad I don't have to worry about what a dish is made with.
