OB Report on "Screw It...I'm Going Camping"

I was hiking to a very remote area of Lake Conroe to do some bank fishing. I've explored the area for years, but never had guts enough to bust into a particularly thick area that has never had any sign of human activity. I finally did it this time and found a little water hole that was miles from any other body of water.
There are other Nascar-type holes in the area, but there are no fish in any of them (occasionally dry up during droughts). But the center of this hole was weed/tree seedling free. Hmmm...
Just for shits & giggles, I whipped out my high-dollar fishing tackle...
(bait cost almost as much as the rod & reel)
and instantly landed a MONSTER!
HOIST BELOW!
The pond was loaded with these things, and I saw zero sign of humans.
I never made it to Lake Conroe. I just stayed at this water hole.
Noticing a pattern to some very old-growth trees, I snooped around and came across this in the ground.
This is a big damn well. 4 ft in diameter and at least 35-40 foot deep judging from rocks I dropped (maybe deeper). I couldn't see the bottom with mini-mag.
Judging from some enormous oak trees laid out in a rectangle, this was apparently the site of an old homestead.
In 2 days, I only opened 1 can of beans and partial can of Spam…otherwise, I ate lots of perch, some crawdads, and frog legs using wild onions and aged wild lemons for seasoning, and dewberries for dessert.
I ate fresh food like a pig, took naps in the cool weather, no bugs, slept in the open...Great trip!

Looks like a fine outcome to me.
I'm glad to know we still have some damn freedom.

In all seriousness, that deep-arse open well is a hazard. Hell, there could be bodies down there as far as anybody knows.
Anyone know of an entity in Texas with jurisdiction over that sort of thing?

Did you drop a rock and count to see how deep the well was?
Posted on 4/25/13 at 8:40 pm to eng08
Judging from rocks I dropped down there, probably a good 35-40 ft deep?
I know I couldn't see the bottom with a strong flashlight
There wouldn't be any baby Jessica getting stuck part way down...this sucker is 4 foot in diameter.
