Did you regret your decision to continue reading or are you happy you did? Fear might find that opinion useful as he struggles with his own decision.
But on the flip side, the second half of SoS was amazing and intense. My fingers were literally sweating as I was turning the pages. And to be able to see all what happened on screen next year will be awesome and a change of pace. It will be different knowing what happens beforehand but I still think it'll be exciting, just a different kind of exciting. A "I can't wait to see how this unfolds on camera" kind of exciting.
Being a "Hodor" for Seasons 1-3 and now being a reader for the next seasons, I feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds, being able to experience both viewpoints to the show. The readers didn't get to experience what us Hodors did week-by-week, as the Hodors didn't get to experience the awesomeness of seeing what they've read come to life. Now I get to go through both experiences. So in the end, I feel like it was worth it. Sorry for tl-dr'ing.

Good answer. As for Fear, there is nothing wrong with either approach. Just pick the way you think you'll enjoy the series the most. Both approaches have their good and bad sides.

I would say just read the whole book. If you're on chapter 43, then you already read the Tyrion meeting Oberyn Martell chapter several chapters back.
And I noticed as a former Hodor turned reader, that the show skipped around in book 3 compared to books 1 & 2. Like Jon's arc in book 3 ends halfway through the book, whereas the chapter with Davos letting Edric Storm go (Gendry in the show) happens as late as chapter 67, while some of the events/POV between the Red Wedding & that Davos chapter won't be until next season, such as that Tyrion Oberyn Martell chapter that happened as early as chapter 38.
If the book was more "linear" like the first 2 books/seasons, the stopping point would be easy to determine. Problem with ASoS is that the show couldn't end it as linear/in order like the book because of money & introducing characters (like Oberyn) for 1 scene and then not have him until later on would be hard to do in the show.

The fear of being spoiled is one of the main factors into me deciding to keep reading. It sucked not being able to wiki something I wasn't sure about or just looking at ASoIaF art without being in fear of being spoiled.
Literally the first day I started the series, I remember going on wikipedia to look at the show's main wiki page just to see who was on the cast. Didn't care to look at any plot or anything, just wanted to see if I recognized any cast members. Scrolled down and saw this
So as soon as I started the show, I knew Sean Bean's character was probably going to be dead when the season ended.

I just started GoT over this holiday. It's almost impossibly hard to read this book when I know exactly what happens.

I felt like the first 2 books dragged on because I had seen everything already on the show, so I kind of rushed through them. I've been taking my time with ASoS and I'm only halfway through it after 2 weeks.

Rewatched some of Season 1 and I'm a little confused by the evolution of Bran and Rickon, so I probably missed/forgot something:
-After Ned gets whacked, Bran finds Rickon wandering in the catacombs beneath Winterfell. Bran says "he's not here." Rickon says he dreamed of Father walking down there among the Stark tombs, a clear suggestion that he too has The Shine. Bran has a dream of Winterfell being flooded (before the Ironborn arrive). No mention of Bran dreaming/seeing Ned murdered.
Flash forward to Season 3, Rickon is now a babbling little idiot who just wants to play with Shaggydog and doesn't understand what's going on. Bran tells Jojen the Cajun Psychic that he "saw" Ned's murder.
Jeauxjen told Bran "it's in your blood," so we can guess that other Stark kids also have a high midichlorian count, just wondering why they scaled back Rickon's character and added in memories to reinforce Bran's gift. Maybe some kind of retcon or editing to save time?

Yeah I'm 200 pages in SoS after reading the first 2 this past month. It's kind of tough to read fast when I know what's going on but I'm really looking forward to catching up and reading the second half. I bet its a lot more captivating.

I'm working my way to non-Hodor status. Definitely gotten into new material in ASoS and shite is good. Can't wait for the 4th season or what happens at the very end of this book.

I just havent been able to push through the books of seasons Ive already watched. I torrented the books on take and they are awesome but when Im driving they make me want to go to sleep. plus I love music
