Weening off of caffeine

I really need to cut back on my caffeine/energy drink intake. On a given day I'll probably drink 2-3 cups of coffee and a full 16oz can of Monster.
How difficult will it be and how long will it take for me to get over the effects of going cold-turkey on all of this stuff? I'm expecting some head aches and grogginess starting out, but will it be much worse than that?

That isn't that much. Just cut out the Monster and stick with coffee. 3-4 cups of coffee a day is actually very healthy.

I did it about 6 months ago. Just slowly reduced intake over abt a week then stopped. First 2 wks after stopping sucked. The habit of grabbing the morning coffee right when getting to work was strong.
Now trying to stick to natural drinks, water, tea, liquor and beer.
What got me was all the diet drinks. Now on the rare occasion I have a soda, it's just the delicious original coke

Did cold turkey last year and it sucked, head aches and just overall in a bad mood for a few days.

Cut out the Monster. 2-3 cups is OK. I only do one but it's a quad espresso, so probably equal to your 3 regular coffees.
Avoid chocolate, tea, coke...contains caffeine. I drink one can of de-caff coke in the afternoon.

Ditch the energy drink, not the coffee. But ditch the sugar in the coffee, or at least limit it.

I did it gradually and drank a lot of water in the place of the caffeine drinks. I didn't go cold turkey. I drink one caffeine drink a day and sometimes, none. I had no side effects presumably because I just started cutting back slowly.

It will sound odd, but start with dropping one cup off coffee til you are no longer doing coffee at all, just do the Monster. Then stop the Monster and replace the caffiene amount with three cups of coffee. If desired cut down one at a time from that point.

Drop the energy drink for sure. Start eating healthier. More natural foods, especially for breakfast, will help give you the energy and defeat that grogginess. And no sugar in those coffees.

Yeah maybe I shouldn't look at just stopping immediately. Just lay off the monsters and slowly get off coffee. But god I hate the taste of non-sweetened coffee.

I wonder how much caffeine Uncle Si gets from a gallon of tea per day?

Not sure what this means, but I'm serious. Energy drinks are part of a culture, one that both attracts and perpetuates immaturity. Ween yourself off of them by acknowledging that what you're drinking is terrible for you and that you refuse to be a slave to mass marketing campaigns full of bullshite.
Personally, I would not want to go without at least a cup or two of coffee every morning. Along with being hooked on it in a physiological sense, I also think it's delicious when made well.

Coffee isn't bad for you. 2-3 cups a day is associated with overall lowered mortality: LINK

I get your point, but I think you're a bit overzealous in your message. I drink the 'zero' energy drinks, 1 a day at most. They aren't as chocked full of caffeine as people think, most have less caffeine than coffee (on an ounce-for-ounce comparison). The biggest addition for energy in those drinks is taurine and B12, and in the sugary ones, sugar. There is no arguing that they aren't very good for you, though. Anyway, I don't drink them because I think the marketing is cool, I drink them because I don't care for the taste of coffee as much as I care for the taste of the energy drinks.

I'd rather drink a ton of caffeine than something with a bunch of chemical ingredients I can't pronounce.
lol, I'm good.

There's one other thing, though. Once you've been weened, you should be careful of overindulging suddenly. I had about 2 or 3 glasses of iced tea one day long after I'd weened down to just one caff drink a day. An hour later, my heart raced like nobody's business. I got sweaty and felt awful. I had to go to the ER as I had caff induced tachycardia. That's what they told me. They gave me a big hit of zanax to slow it down. Scared the beejeesus out of me. Same thing happened to my brother when he'd cut back and neither of us cut it out altogether. I'm just careful not to have too much at one time, now.

Yeah one of my buddies went to the ER thinking he was going to have a heart attack after drinking a couple of NOS drinks while cramming for an exam. They just told him he was having panic attacks and to lay off the energy drinks haha.
