I messed up. Wanted a longer UL spinning rod. Found the perfect 7 footer. Go to fish with it, and it appears to be a jigging pole, not a spinning rod.

I love everything else about it, but have zero use for a jigging pole, especially one that short.

How do change the first two guides from casting to spinning? Just cut out old, and wrap with spiderwire/floss/thread and some kind of glue? Can I do it without it looking like arse?

ETA:
I think he picks up repairs on Wednesdays so if you get it over there this afternoon, it should be ready pretty quick.

Its harder than changing out casting guides for spinning guides, the spacing is different and you have to line up the guides ob the spine of the rod differently. Take it to a pro if you really like the rod and don’t want to be disappointed. There is some science and art to building rods. What brand of rod is it?

How the line comes off a reel changes between spinning, casting and jigging rods so you space the distance to the first guides differently and the spacing between guides changes. The number of guides changes too between rod types. Each rod has a spine or kick point (they are not perfectly round) so you place the guides on the spine (for a casting rod) and on the opposite side for a spinning/fly rod as I recall. It been a few yrs since I built rods ( I used to make 30+ a yr but then I had kids…)

It is harder than you think, you need to heat them etc, and properly space them etc. It is a 20-30 dollar job max for a decent rod repair guy and it will look 10 times better

I catch those with my hands. Hug them and squeeze them and rub their scales the wrong way and name them George.
