Free Agency Ain't Done

We're just past the big signings. There's plenty of recognizable names out there that are looking for jobs. It's tough for a lot of vets to take 50, 75, or even 90% pay cuts. That's what the next phase of free agency is though.
No traction in talking who else might be good adds in the stickied thread so I thought I'd try here. Who's still out there that could be a fit for the Saints?
Here's a few with ones I would target highlighted-
CBs
Antoine Winfield
Mike Jenkins
Sheldon Brown
Quentin Jammer
Rashean Mathis
Joselio Hanson
Terrence McGee
Stanford Rout
Marcus Trufant (10 years after we should have drafted him)
Safeties
Kerry Rhodes
Charles Woodson
Quintin Mikell
Usama Young
Nate Clements
Jim Leonhard
Sherrod Martin
Dawan Landry
Gearld Sensabaugh
Defensive Tackles
Richard Seymour
Corey Williams
Sione Pouha
Casey Hampton
Tommy Kelly
Shaun Cody
3-4 OLBs
James Harrison
Shaun Phillips
Bryan Thomas
Calvin Pace
Left Tackles
Jared Gaither
Bryant McKinnie
Max Starks
Chad Clifton
Jeff Otah
Wide Receivers
Brandon Lloyd
Laurent Robinson
Randy Moss
Braylon Edwards
Austin Collie
Josh Cribbs
Ramses Barden
Jabar Gaffney
Mohamed Massaquoi
Mark Clayton
Devery Henderson
Early Doucet
Deion Branch
dunno if any of'em do anything for me

an OT, a safety, and a DT and call it a day

A guy like Woodson would arguably help our defense more than anyone we could draft.

I know that. There's a sticky at the top of the board. Do you need the linkage?

My thread was mainly just tracking actual transactions, not open discussions on who we should add. I'm not Paddy and wont link you.

I could easily see him immediately making an impact.

I wouldn't mind any of those left tackles

I agree with this mostly because we have 0 at the moment. I'm still hoping the draft a brick wall in the first.

I really don't think we will go with a LT in the 1st. If we can pick one of these guys up then we'll have more options on our 3rd and 4th round picks.

Those guys are stop gaps and a 3rd or later pick is no guarantee.
First round tackles turn out to be great way more often than not and I'd rather have a wall around Brees for the rest of his time here than another Bushrod causing him to get happy feet and throw awful picks.
Imagine Brees with the middle and his blindside completely covered. It would have way more impact than another "cross your fingers he'll be good" OLB that we have 3 of already(Butler, Wilson, and Galette).

Hey blues, can you add receivers to your post also?
I think adding one more vet for the minimum could add insurance there. Sure Morgan started to come on but there's no guarantee he'll keep it going and Toon is still an unknown.
I think our biggest remaining needs in order are:
1) Starting Left Tackle
2) A proven vet at OLB
3) Backup/Starting Safety(likely Free Safety)
4) Another burner Wide Receiver or Slot Receiver(more the first)
5)One more Nose Tackle or Defensive End depending on where Hicks mostly plays(we have a few unproven young guys for both spots already).
6) Possibly another young corner through the draft given our injury history there and Greer's possible departure next year.
And the LT is by far the most important need left.

I completely agree with this. I loved the draft pick when we selected him, however, he hasn't lived up to it. Maybe it was injuries, maybe it wasn't. For me, he's going to have to prove it to me.

I agree Woodson will be a solid signing and remember the last time we signed a former packers safety we won the Super Bowl.

Totally agree about LT. I can't stop thinking about Chris Long abusing Charles Brown.

If one of those top 3 LTs drop to us, we better pull the trigger. Both Qbs will have to go before us, and a couple skill positions.

LT and call it a day. Woodson would be nice at the right price too!

Yeah I do not want to see Charlie Brown at that spot. He proved to be an adequate RT but an actual downgrade from the serviceable Bushrod at LT.
Honestly Marcel Jones is the only one we currently have that I think could even try to play that spot and he's an unknown there.
Jones linkage:
LINK
quote:
Pick Analysis: Jones is one of the top offensive tackles in the class after starting for two years on some highly productive Nebraska offensive lines. He has the size and footwork to compete for a job at left tackle at the next level, and such prospects often have second- or third-round value. Jones is no different, and he has the talent to start early in his NFL career. Look for him to make a move to the right side, though, as he is less reliable powering off his right foot and isn't quite at the level to start immediately protecting on the left side.

A lot of big names on there, just wonder how much gas they have left in the tank.
