I don't understand something. I wouldn't mind getting Victor Butler, but how is he any more proven than Gallete and Wilson? And they are younger. I thought the idea was to get a veteran who could fit in a rotation and help them learn. I just don't understand why everyone is so desperate to sign an unproven potential guy to take the place of the 2 unproven potential guys we already have.

Probably familiarity with scheme. Butler played for Ryan in the 3-4 in Dallas. I don't think Gallete has ever played in a 3-4 and Wilson was a 3-4 ILB at Illinois, but has been a 4-3 OLB & DE in the NFL.

And Butler has been pretty good when he's got a chance to play.

Shefter tweet

Elvis Dumervil's contract not filed with NFL in time. Dumervil released, as Denver Post released.

@Jeff_Legwold: Dumervil's release gives #Broncos huge dead money hit. Limits ability to bring him back with a "new'' deal

Exact same thing could be said about Galette and Wilson.

As far as Galette and Wilson not having experience, just about every player that gets switched to 3-4 OLB never played that position. I get that Butler is familiar with the system, but that doesn't change the fact that he is unproven just like the 2 guys we already have.

And I bet Butler will cost less than the 8 million Dumervil was going to get from Broncos before this mess.

That's my instinct too, but I can't think of what his incentive would be. He could accomplish the same thing by just simply refusing to agree to restructure his salary. Actually, had he given Denver the advanced notice, they may have restructured someone else's contract (doubtful).

Going this route intentionally just makes him and especially his agent look bad. I can't imagine his agent would agree to this tactic.

Yea. I hear what your saying. But it just seems like such "dog ate my homework" excuse.

Seems like they'd have a more reliable way to do this.

First you say Gallet and Wilson are younger, then you say we need veteran leadership. Which is it?

And I'm just suggesting those are the reasons. Maybe Ryan knows he's a coach on the field. Maybe he likes the guy, I don't know. But those reasons are plausible.
