Ibarra at third concerns me.
His defense has been pretty mediocre to almost bad, but hitting .358 with a .453 OBP excuses any defense IMO. Now if he was Helenihi at the plate...

Looking back on what I thought in the preseason, I still stand by my general prediction that this would be a CWS caliber team that could compete for a NC. As for my more specific areas of preseason concerns, so far I have been proven dead wrong on pretty much every single one of them. Now OOC play is still OOC play, but at this point I think I'll just sit back, shut my mouth for a while, and enjoy the fun.

Bourgeois has been pretty effective as well.

How long Mainieri's leash is when Nola and Eades usually (hit the wall). Will the freshmen keep up the tear at the plate vs better pitching. All in all this team has a lot of talent and is playing together as a team, if they keep it up Omaha shall be calling.

This is the right answer....the only consistently inconsistent part of the team to this point. Of course the increase in level of competition (by a shite load) is also a concern, but not much we can do about this one.

Tough crowd around here. Let's see if I can recap: 1) Starters are suspect 2) Bullpen not very good 3) Can't get runners around to score 4) No experience for young players 5) Outfield has no arms 6) Not road tested 7) Cotton shouldn't be the closer oh and of course :firejavi:

I have some concerns, but they are very minor. This team from top to bottom is very solid.

FWIW, here's my take on these issues. Pitching: Our starters are solid. Nola will be fine and Eades is stepping up so far as we all hoped before the season. The bullpen is the deepest and most versatile that we have had in years. Great combo of seniors and underclassmen, LHPs and RHPs, velocity and junk. We saw 10 relievers throw Wednesday night. Lots of depth. Defense: You can't teach speed, and this outfield has plenty of it. The arm strength of an outfielder may come into play once every 4 games, where as speed can come into play on any given fly ball. Ibarra is fine as many have said, his offense makes up for it and he is still learning the new position. Offense: ...everyone knows we don't score in the first 6 innings anyway :firejavi: Not Road Tested: Same shit, different year. Personally, I think the team will be fired up to go play in a hostile environment.

This team is better than last year's. Going to sit back and enjoy watching them play. Won't be 'concerned' until we get to an elimination game.

LOL wut? You don't have much then. Nola is one of the best starting pitchers in the country. His strikeout to walk ratio is 8:1 He has only allowed 21 baserunnes (14 hits, 4 walks, 3 HBP) in 26 innings pitched this season. He has 32 strikeouts in those 26 innings. He has allowed 1 extra base hit all season. 1 hit roughly every other inning.

Agree with some of y'alls concerns and good analysis AstroTiger, I think most would agree these are all minor issues on a strong ball club. Only question now is will this team come together and step up when adversity hits in the SEC. Gonna be a lot of close ballgames in the SECW no doubt. We are about to find out!

Wow you're standards are pretty high there josh. We have a pitcher who throws 95 with movement on his fastball, a sick slider and changeup...an 32/4 strikeout to walk ratio and opponents hitting .157 against him. He gave up a 3-run homer to BYU, and after pitching six dominant innings against Washington, was left in one inning too long. He is an dominant as any pitcher in the country right now and will be a future 1st round pick. I'm just curious, what more do you want out of our Friday night starter? There are not a whole lot of Stephen Strasburg circling this earth. PS - PurpleandGold, you beat me to it

Also eagerly awaiting Ross and/or Jones getting hot at the plate. We've been dominant in the OOC without these guys hitting. I'm very confident one or both of these guys will end the year hitting at or around .300

My only concern at the moment. They are veterans so I expect them to bounce back and get it going soon.
