Sam Montgomery may drop to 3rd round or later?

SIAP. I was looking thru a recent mock draft on walter football and he had Sam going in the middle of the 3rd round. I know he didn't have the greatest season and he made some stupid comments recently, but that seems really low to me. What does everyone else think?

No one should be surprised if Sam Montgomery falls to the third round or later. His comments about quitting and betting on football have drawn some serious red flags. However, he's the best player available and fills a big need for Tampa Bay.

and betting on football
He didn't bet on football. He had a friendly bet with his teammate on who would get drafted higher. They weren't "gambling on football".

second round at the latest.

I agree, if anything that shows he is just competitive to have a friendly wager like that. But the 3rd round sure is far to fall when he would have likely been top 10 last year.

You can't admit you take plays off and expect to be a high pick.

All the usual pre-draft BS. People spend 3 years bulding these guys up to be top prospects, then spend the 3 months before the draft trying to tear them down.
You show me a player who played "all out" EVERY play, against EVERY opponent in college, and I'll show you a liar. If a team in the first or second round thinks Montgomery can get to the QB, they're going to take him.

I think out of all the defensive guys leaving early (Reid, Minter, Mingo, Logan, Simon, and Sam) he will be the least productive in the NFL

His comments were pretty dumb, and he might drop to the second, but no way he's there in the third.

He definitely made more bets than just this. You are right that he was not gambling on college football, but the "friendly" wagers were more than just that.

Hard for me to believe that Sam goes lower than the second. Just too damn good a player at a position that it is hard to fill.

Well he shouldn't pop off about taking it easy against the no name teams.

Thats a lot of skrilla for a college boy. Must've had a few good days at the berg

JJ27, I thought the same thing but Mike Detiller cleared that up in a radio interview. Detiller said the agent probably told Sam to get in front of the story. It was obvious that Sam didn't play all out for every game and the NFL scouts knew this coming in to the combine. Did his agent's plan work out? It doesn't look like it did. But then this could explain why his numbers were down. His talent outweighs his production in 2012, so someone will take him in the 1st round based off that.

He was all about himself all the way.
