And how is that betting on football?

I only posted it as a response to the post that he only bet on draft status.

But, IMO, I think it's largely semantics whether you consider betting on amount of sacks and performance as players, on whether or not it's "betting on football," or not.

If you bet on whether or not a QB will throw for over/under 200 yards, you could argue you're betting on football. It's a prop bet. I don't see how that's considerably different from betting on who will have the most sacks.

Either way, I don't really care if it's considered betting or not. Like all Tigers, I want Sam to be drafted as high as possible, and have a long, successful career. But, as the article says, he bet on more than future draft status.

The implication of betting on football would suggest that he was betting on the outcome of games. Not whether or not he had more sacks. But you're probably right, you post on the Rant more than I so that suggests your intelligence level is very high.

It's not, but people will claim that it is because people are constantly looking to vilify someone.

So, IYO, when you bet props, like which RB will rush for more yards in a particular game, you're not technically gambling on football?

Perhaps, but that's not what was said. Like another poster said, probably semantics. Of course it's not nearly the same thing as betting on outcomes, but I think the fear might be of having a gambling problem that rears its ugly head in the future. A college kid--with supposedly zero income--dropping $500-$1K bets on the reg is somewhat alarming.

I would argue the opposite

When I bet on a RB's yardage, yes its betting on football. When two players have a bet, between the two of them, on who will have more sacks is not betting on football. Now, if he would have bet online that he would have Under 1.5 sacks in a certain game and won, then yes that would be betting on football.

Mingo and Sam bet they could beat each other, nothing more.

Pete Rose only bet on the Reds to win and was banned for life. And conspiracy theorists would have you believe it got Michael Jordan suspended from the NBA for a year. It's a slippery slope. And it's a red flag. How big of one depends on each team, I suppose. But I wouldn't like it. They aren't betting dinner, they're betting several hundred dollars with no income. What will they do when they have millions?

I wouldn't exactly say that two bets is on the reg.

And do we even know for a fact that they have even paid up? Maybe payment isn't made til after they get in the pros.

I'm sure that's not the case, but people surely seem to want to run with this story as if they have any real information.

Sam plays with emotion. When he is emotionally invested in a game it brings out his best.

To me it says that he has a lack of focus.

After LSU irked by an awful Auburn team he talked about how they needed a dog fight like that to get them prepared for the rest of the season.

They shouldn't have needed that IMO. Miles coaches them up to play dominant football no matter what, but it sounds like the team leaders weren't reinforcing that on the field last year.

Sounds likely. Sam is an unexciting prospect. He clearly has what it takes to be an NFL player, but there's no oomph. He's an average pass rusher and a good run stuffer. Nothing to get very excited about.

I'm sure they were just keeping a running tab right? Paying up 10k one way or another after they get drafted won't be too much. It might show they are stupid with money, but financial savvy certainly isn't a requirement in the NFL.

Yep. No one gives these players cash or anything while in school.

Had to be just a tab...

While I think that is dumb that's a different story. If Pete Rose was just betting a teammate he would have more hits he would have never been banned. It's an entirely different level when you have a bookie involved.

I really doubt they were exchanging thousands of dollars during the season. Sure the probably get some money on the side, but if they were making lots of bets like this then I don't see why they would exchange that kind of money regularly.

whatever it is, I'll take it. you cant beat that value, especially if you get mingo in round one. the professional level chemistry would be impeccable. The thing that montgomery has going for him is he's a locker room guy. People like to be around him, and he inspires people around him.
Yeah the kid took a few plays off. You ever play madden and just trashed on someone- you almost wanna just simulate till the end of the game. I cant say I blame him.

So his betting on football with Mingo drops him all the way to the third round, but doesn't drop Mingo? Makes sense.
