They've had ideas that get shot down every year since I moved here. It was going to be a hotel and conference center and that got turned down.

I fully expect it to just sit next to Reliant for the next 30 years

Freaking gangs ran that place into the dumpster. They had to shut it down.

4 years ago... you could have bought the Pontiac Silverdome (Detroit Lions former home stadium) for less than $600,000

Roof now deflated for renovations

I know a guy who's trying to turn the dome into a film studio. I mean they did film the Bad News Bears there.

That is a damn shame that they can't put that brute to bed in a somewhat reasonable way.

It was fairly iconic to the region in its day. If the Stros could have ever gotten their shite together (still trying on that) it could have been a really well known stadium.

However, like someone already said, with the fact that the city let one of its main attractions, Astroworld, get overrun by street gangs it doesn't bode well for the dome riding off into the sunset gracefully that's for sure.

They should tear it down and have more parking. Maybe create a little museum maybe where home plate was.

i remember some of the offices in the building were still in use up to a few years ago. that was S/D due to being out of compliance w/ the fire code.

It's always striking to me how small it is relative to Reliant next door.

Apparently the Astrodome can fit inside the Superdome.

Bud Adams really pulled a number on the city of Houston, getting them to spend however many millions of dollars to add like 15,000 extra seats there, about 3-4 years from him moving to Nashville.

I can't believe they still owe so much money on that dump. Although, I do have fond memories of going to Astros games there as a kid.

God damnit, I hate to sort of defend Bud Adams, but it's funny how before the Oilers left, Drayton McLane said the Astrodome was fine, but suddendly needed a new building right after the Oilers left. In retro spect, I'm glad Bud is gone, but I wish the name and history stayed with the city

Yeah, not only is Oilers a better name than Texans, but the unique colors trump the overly used navy, red, and white.

Loved going to the Dome as a kid when we went to visit relatives. No matter what people think of it, I will always hold it in high esteem - it was my first experience to MLB.
