How many here can remember the old small town one screen theaters?

Something about the "movies you remember that they never show" thread clicked a button in my memory.
Anybody else here old enough to remember the small town one screen theaters that showed pretty much the same movie from Friday to Sunday and got a new one once a week?
A clock with luminous hands on side of he screen/stage. The little folded pamphlets that showed this week and the next two week' movies. Cartoons before the movie. Cost like 75cents to see the movie. And if you were really poor you could sneak in your own candy/snacks. Always played really old songs before the movie like "Love and Marriage" and "Up Up and Away in my Beautiful Balloon".

Yep.
Saw Return of the Jedi in our one huge screen theater that sat 1,100 people.
The smaller theater near us had one screen as well...and would show one movie for about 6 months.
With the big one screen, they would show a movie only at one showtime...crazy, huh? The kids movies during the day and then the R-rated ones at night. So you had to make the 6pm Breakfast Club or the 8pm The Falcon and the Snowman.

The Prytania Theater in New Orleans is still kicking.

I can remember the one in my hometown being torn down but it closed shortly after I was born so I don't remember the actual theater. We broke into once when we were kids but there was nothing still inside.... We were very disappoint

I grew up with one that had 2 screens. It got 3 when I was 8 and now it's got 4.

I went to one in Georgetown Texas, whenever "Hear No Evil, See no evil" with Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder came out.
After that it became a playhouse.
I have been to Prytania a few times, but I miss 'Movie Pitchers' in Nola. Like a smaller Alamo Drafthouse.

When I was a kid, I saw most movies at either the little one screen theater in Marksville or the two screen theater in Mansura, just a few miles up the road.

I saw plenty of movies at the Westwood theater in Lafayette. I can even remember going to the small theater in Ville Platte. I think the Queen Cinema in Eunice is still open. Its two screens but looks like it used to be one and they just built a wall down the middle.

Lived in Vidalia through 1971. Used to drive over to Natchez to an old movie theater that was downtown. It had an orchestra pit with a piano that someone played before the movie.
They re-played lots of Disney movies there. That was as big a deal as going to the circus. It's where I saw Peter Pan, Treasure Island, Pinocchio, Old Yeller, Swiss Family Robinson, Dumbo, Sleeping Beauty, even the Flubber movies.
I remember one time we headed over & found out there was a civil rights protest going on. Cops were lined up across the street from the theater. We turned around and went home. We didn't get to go there again ever. My parents told us it was too dangerous. A new theater was built across from Jeff Davis Memorial Hospital.

I saw my first movie ever, Treasure Island, and the Broadmoore Theater.
The Bon Marche' Twin cinema came along shortly after.
Then, Cinema 8 in Cortana Mall opened. That was off the chain.

And does well. More of a neighborhood Theater than a small town one.
Very true. I make sure I see a movie or two there every year. Just depends on what they are showing.

RIP Mr. Frank
The man loved him some gordetto's mix.
There was one in Donaldsonville. I remember seeing Cinderella there. My mom and dad went there a lot and they told me they were there for the first movie showing after the theater was desegregated. Blazing Saddles was playing.
