Add colorful sugar crystals and a baby to a cinnamon roll and BAM (thanks Emeril) you have a King Cake.

Good call

A king cake is more based in a French bread dough texture and ingredients, with the addition of cinnamon to it. A French gateau de roi is a true cake is cooked in a form that is shaped like a tin can and very different from here.

Is that what this is about?
People from out of state searching for cinnamon rolls covered in sugar crystals?

Anything associated with Louisiana in terms of food has a mystique that no other state shares.
So much so, that even a commonality such as sugar coated cinnamon rolls stuffed with plastic babies is much more appealing than JUST a dry arse cinnamon roll.
