If Bregman is that good, I can live with him in the 3 hole and Katz in the 5 hole.

Remember how good Jones was as a freshman? Bregman should be at least that good, with more power potential.

That's what I'm saying. Jones's bat was awesome as a freshman. If Bregman can duplicate that, that's a 3/4/5 order that is good as any 3/4/5 in the country.

I hope Jacoby can get it together. He may be the key to this years offense.

Bregman/Rhymes/Katz in a row is downright scary. If I'm a reliever and get called upon going into an inning with those 3 due up I'd pass

my question is, do we have a 2 hole hitter that's good enough to warrant all 3 of those guys dropping back a spot in the order? Are Scaimbra and the other OF that good at the plate?

Yeah the fall this last year was inexplicable. Went from one of the best hitters to one of the worst

If he even hovers around .300 that'd be fantastic

Tool, that's kind of why I was holding out for Jones in the 2 hole. His speed is excellent and his bat can be very solid.

Per LSU Baseball Twitter

@LSUbaseball: Mainieri: "Heart of the order - Raph Rhymes, Mason Katz, Alex Bregman - may be the best we have had in years."

Mainieri: "This team will be much more balanced than last year's team. Lineup has much better chance 1 through 9 tough outs."

Mainieri: Freshman Alex Bregman will bat third in the order and play shorstop. "I have no doubt he can handle it right away."

CPM is in the college baseball HOF & has won the SEC, SEC Tourney, and a NC. I put a lot more faith in his knowledge re the batting lineup than a fan, sorry.

Dusty Baker has a ton of qualifications, too. He spent at least three seasons playing Corey Patterson and Juan Pierre at leadoff because they are fast and play center. Baseball is one of those sports where the understanding has increased recently and old people sometimes are misguided in what they do. So leave the appeal to referential authority at the door. Playing Raph in left and katz anywhere in the outfield makes the defense terrible. The other poster was spot on about maximizing ABs.

Just take out the 2 hole and go with:

Leadoff hitter
Bregman
Rhymes
Katz

I don't like pushing Rhymes and Katz back in the order.

I get Rhymes but why so protective of Katz?

I could live with Rhymes, Bregman, then Katz.

We just need a good bat behind Rhymes to keep him seeing some pitches with runners on base.
