do we have a 2 hole hitter that's good enough to warrant all 3 of those guys dropping

Jacoby a junior this year and will be batting in the 2 hole. He will be an all-american and finally live up to the hype and lead us back to the CWS.

I agree with moving the lineup to

1.Sciambra
2.Bregman
3.Rhymes
4.Katz

Katz is a 5/6 hole hitter. Thats been the problem the last couple of years -- Not enough talent at the plate. Good to see him there; Overall team talent at the plate is up.

He wanted Katz and Rhymes in that 4/5 spot last year but the injury to Sciambra really hurt

Fields was his only option and was not a threat at all

Well Jones is projected to go in the First round of the draft this year so he better hope he has a good year. Potential only goes so far.

if PM thinks Laird can hit .300 as a frosh, is that saying Laird may start?

Kendall Rogers has him as the 15th best prospect in college this year, not sure if that should translate to 1st rd pick.

We can talk about the batting order all we want but if Mainieri's past is any indication, it will change multiple times over the first month of the season.

after listening to the interview, it's my opinion that Laird gets it. He mentioned Stevenson and Mcmullen as being inconsistent but I dont think he mentioned anything like that with Laird.

PM said if a groundball hits the ground 3 times, Laird will get a singe out of it. Katz mentioned in an interviews I heard about 2 months ago, that everytime Laird hits a groundball to short he's safe at first. The kid must just slap the ball and haul arse.

I could see him leading off and Scaimbra at the 2, because PM said Chris has done a really good job of using all fields and not being a pull hitter like he was as a fresh and that's something that's good for a 2 hole hitter. I dont think it makes sense to put a ground ball hitter like Laird seems to be at #2, that's a fielders choice waiting to happen if the leadoff gets a single. Just a guess though.

Heard the same thing.

PM compared Laird to Willie McGee of the Cardinals way back when...

So true, but at least it sounds like he's got a lot of great pieces to move around. Looks to be a big improvement from last year. Just my opinion but I'd say a line up with Ibarra in the 9 spot must be pretty solid. I am interested to see how he fairs against SEC pitching.

PM said he also thinks Laird can handle the pressure because of him being a football star and used to playing infront of bigger crowds.

I think it's gonna be

Laird
Chris S
Bregman
Rhymes
Katz
Ross

Wouldn't shock me if Jacoby is the 9 hole guy.

I hope this doesn't happen, but could very likely be the case.

Has Raph found any power in the offseason? Singles are better than nothing, but somewhat useless for a slow-motion runner.

I seriously doubt he has found power.

This is just stupid, if anything he's hurting it. Raph is just not a guy you can put in the field, period. I'm sorry, but a .950% in LF? That's awful. If he's playing LF, then who is going to DH? One of the outfielders who is better in the OF than him?

It's not stupid. The kid came back for a reason. PM made the decision back then to give the kid the job in left.

I think anyone with half a brain would decide that Raph in left is better than no Raph.
