We can talk about the batting order all we want but if Mainieri's past is any indication, it will change multiple times over the first month of the season.

...as it should.

Has Raph found any power in the offseason? Singles are better than nothing, but somewhat useless for a slow-motion runner.

He was batting above .500 with runners in scoring position for a large portion of the year last year. More power would be great...but more power would basically make him head and shoulders above any hitter that has ever been here. He's just not that guy.

However, If he comes close to duplicating what he did last year, he'll easily do enough damage in the 4 hole to warrant the spot. If his BA drops .150, then he probably should be moved up to the #2, IMO.

I have no problem with Raph doing what he does. If he replicates what he did last season, he will go down as one of the best LSU hitters of all time, if not the country.

I'd like to see Rhymes 3rd and Katz 4th but that's just me.

FTR I thought this last year too... Never understood why Katz was batting before Rhymes but what do I know.

...probably because Katz needed the protection more than Rhymes did.

Ralph will play left and DH. There is no lock there.

Is it just me or does anyone else get a chubby at this lineup? The new bats can't even hold us back!

I don't understand how anyone knows how well this offense will do. After last seasons record for groundouts, I'm managing my own expectations.

We know Rhymes Katz Ross and Sciambra can hit.
Bregman is the top rated freshman hitters in the country.
I'm optimistic.

It's because this lineup has potential.

Jones batted over .300 his freshman year. This is a BIG season for him. This year will determine if he is a first round pick or not.

Sciambra was playing well before he got hurt. You throw in Bregman with his expectations to go along with Rhymes, Katz, and Ross. I'd say you have a pretty decent lineup.

Lets be honest, last season we had some serious holes in the lineup.

Don't think that's accurate. Sciambra didn't get more than a couple hits in his first 20 or at bats. He was coming around but he wasn't over .300.

Yea my bad that was way off...I just thought I remember him starting to really play well before he got hurt.

I just looked it up...He was playing well before he got hurt. Not up to .300, but was getting on base.

Rhymes and Katz should be 3rd and 4th in the lineup, and I might seriously consider batting them 2nd and 3rd. Get those guys to the plate as often as possible. I'd rather them batting 2nd and 3rd than putting an automatic out in the 2 hole just for him to bunt in case the leadoff reaches base.

You want those guys in position to drive in runs. It's the anatomy of any lineup.

Rhymes in the 4 hole is fine. Katz 5th should hit plenty with Bregman & Raph on base.

As far as Raph in left, I'm sure he'll be a late inning replacement unless he's due up in a close game.

You don't put a player in LF because of his glove. Sorry but that's stupid.

You don't put your best two hitters at the 4 and 5 spots.

I've been wondering about this myself. I would not go 2,3 this year, if some of these lefties can hit, but last year I would have. Rhymes and Katz are just too slow for 2,3. But I'd damn sure put them at 3,4 instead of 4,5.

Like you, I've won exactly 0 NCAA's.

Nah, that's what they did last year, right? And they didn't exactly have four hot bats in front of him.

The other poster was spot on about maximizing ABs.

yeah, up until you young guys came along with all that technology we determined batting order by birthdays. Maximizing at bats, eh? What'll they think of next?
