A shorter seasoned schedule? Why are they against it? A 50 game NBA season is awesome

Definitely yes for the NBA. It doesn't really take 82 games to figure out who the best teams are. Also, the regular season isn't quite as important with 16 playoff teams. Baseball is a lot more fluid and a 162 game schedule really separates the men from the boys. There's always a bunch of teams that folds down the stretch late in the season because they can't handle the physical and mental toll of all those games. Baseball's supposed to be a hard game so I see that as a good thing. If there is one change I would make, it would be to add more doubleheaders to the regular season and give teams more off-days. That's the way they used to do it in the old days to make it a little easier on the players. Baseball also wouldn't as hard to follow for fans if their teams were given off-days. By late August, people are basically done with baseball because they're exhausted seeing five consecutive months of baseball with only 10, 15 off-days over that entire period.

The problem with the NBA and NHL isn't the length of the regular season its the length of the playoffs. WAAAAAAY too many teams and the series are too long.
MLB would probable benefit from a 154 game schedule but the playoff system is perfect and should be copied by the NBA and NHL

The NBA made an enormous mistake extending the first round to seven games. It was completely pointless and drastically cuts down the chances of an upset happening in the first round. As for the NHL, I'm not a big NHL fan but a #8 seed taking down a #1 seed apparently isn't very rare which completely renders the regular season meaningless. What's the point of working your arse off to get the best record when it really gives you no significant advantage? Also, it seems like there's a mediocre regular season team that has a goalie get hot at the right time and goes deep in the playoffs every year. The NHL regular season just doesn't seem that important. All you have to do is make the playoffs and get hot at the right time and anything can happen.

It would be much better if it were between 35-45. Why 50?
Would be amazing to see the Caps receive their annual dismissal in a shorter window

The quality of basketball took a real hit last year with the compressed schedule format, and I expect the same with hockey this season.
The calendar has to be just as long, but with fewer games for a 'shorter' season to work.

As a hockey fan, I prefer the 48 game schedule with the playoff meat grinder. As a baseball fan, I want the 162 game schedule and a shorter playoffs. Those games should mean something.
Hockey's regular season has NEVER mattered. It used to be a six team league with four playoff spots.

I think baseball should keep 162 games but schedule more doubleheaders.

I would shorten all three of those regular seasons...just way too many games for anyone to care.
MLB playoffs are great as is.
NBA and NHL playoffs need two fewer spots and the beginning rounds of playoffs should be shorter.

NBA/NHL 70 games + go to MLB playoff format
MLB 150 games
MLB 150 games

I think all of that would be an improvement.
Right now MLB is the only one I follow all season. If they shortened the season and added some intensity I might pick up NBA or NHL. Right now I just watch the last couple of playoff series.

MLB for sure. 182 is insane.

It is 162, not 182. Still a crazy number of games though. I think in the old days they did 154, and before that 140. Either of those would be an improvement.

Agreed
baseball should shorten regular season, basketball and hockey should shorten playoffs

I did the math one time, and if you did a double header every other Saturday and went to 154 games, it would shave like a month off the season. That would do wonders as far as not competing with football for viewers.

Well tht was because they were playing 3-4 days in a row, and had no pre season. If they spread it out a little more I think it would work great. I was way more into the NBA regular season last year than this year
