I decided to get myself a little Christmas present on Monday. I've been wanting a nice slim concealed semi auto as my Glock 27 is just too big for that job unfortunantly. So I went to academy and did a little research and found the Taurus PT709 and PT740 models. They only had the 740 in stock so I went with it.

Well last night I decided to load it up. Fill the mag up and go to load one in the chamber. Release the slide and the bullet hangs up going up the feeder. I pull the slide back and it stays jammed. I ended up having to push the slide forward very hard in order to get the round to chamber. I then decided to run some rounds through it manually. When it got up the sixth round it would stove pipe.

I thought maybe it was the ammo. So I ran blazer, gold dot, lawman, and Hornady through it. No matter how many rounds in the Mag or the ammunition it did the same thing.

I called Academy today. They tell me no returns no matter what. Talked to a manager and he advised no returns, but they could send it off to Taurus. That is just piss poor service. You sell me a damn gun and its basically a paper weight. Never been fired and just bought it.

This is going to be the policy at any large retailer.

Taurus will fix it up

My point is I should not have to go through the warrant process on something I literally just bought.

Very good chance you need to just break in the gun. Once you get a couple hundred rounds through it there's a possibility it could smooth out. I will say this... Those little Taurus pistols in .40 are not for me. In all honesty you'd probably get a quicker answer or solution to your problem by going straight to Taurus anyways. It's not like academy is going to fix the gun...

With guns, that's standard dude. Always has been in every place I know of. Once you buy it, the retailer CAN facilitate you getting warranty work on it, but in the end, it's the manufacturers problem.

The retailer is not going to accept any liability for a gun malfunction. No way, no how.

You can't be serious about wanting to return a gun.

already been said:
any gun retailer
dont by a taurus

but academy also pissed me off yesterday.

i went into the store when i got off work. they were pretty busy. i stood directly in front of the pistol case looking at the guns. no one asked to assist me. i was there for 5-10 minutes. they were busy, and im a patient person so i didnt think much of it. then a guy who looked about 50 walked up and they helped him immediately (im in my 20s). i said loud enough where they could hear me "well screw yall too, i'll go spend $600 elsewhere"

but i do have a giftcard to academy. so i thought i'd pick up some 9mm rounds. none. completely out of everything.

so then i get home, and called the other academy in my area. rang 16 times and no one picked up the phone.

called another dealer and ashley answered. told me they had two 9mm and two .40s in stock. then gave me the pricing and told me they have more ordered and should be arriving soon. and told me they had a decent bit of 9mm ammo on the shelves. all this in 1/4 the amount of time i was not being answered by academy.

i'm going to buy my shield tomorrow, and pay $50 more for it because of the quality of customer service. i guess i can get some targets and ammo (i also need 20g, 30-30, -06, & .22) at academy with my giftcard

I'm not a fan of Academy either, but from my experience, this is about as common everywhere as a retailer not accepting returns on guns. Gun salesmen do not exist. Only cousins of the owner, and grumpy retired police officers who give one-word answers and then stare at you awkwardly.

This same thing happened to a buddy of mine in a Sig 1911 .22 he bought at Hebert's. he had it for 5 days and the finish was flying off like a dress on prom night. They were no help. Basically said that sucks and for him to send it to Sig. I was thinking that in that short of a time frame, they would give him another and handle it with Sig themselves.

That sucks, but it's SOP. I did buy a Springfield XD from Cabelas about a year and a half ago. I wanted the 40 but all they had was the 9 so i got it. I filled out the survey the next day and told them the service was great, but they were out of the gun that I wanted. The store manager called me that day and told me to bring the fun back and exchange for the 40, no problem. Changed it out that day, no problem.

and academy has return policy on par with walmart's. i once witnessed some PWT returning these used shoes (heavily used. looked like a kid used them to play outdoors for a year) and academy didnt fight it one bit. they had a receipt

but they pissed me off. i was when i left
