Trey, you must have mistaken this board for the OT. In the real world, that's expensive for a fifth of bourbon.

I agree that is expensive. The owner of that store is making a killing if he can get those prices.

You mean that's the the price the store owner gets it from the distributor for, right? Us normal folk ain't getting it at that price.

My liquor store was selling the 15 for 90

The Missus bought me a bottle of Johnnie Walker Double Black as a present. That's some nice whisky. Only about $40 a bottle.
Lately, I've been digging Bulliet Rye and Powers. Both can be had for about $20.

I'll take all they have left for $110 plus whatever your costs to ship them to me are.
Back to OP-Eagle Rare 10 yo and Elmer T. Lee, both for ~$30 or less. Rowan's Creek, Noah's Mill and Black Maple Hill for a bit more. Any of the B's if you can't find the others-Booker's, Basil Hayden's or Blanton's. Buffalo Trace if they are relatives that drink a lot, and hold back the better stuff for yourself.

Theyre long gone. I've got about half a bottle left that I'm not sharing.

That's where George Dickel, Jim Beam, and Evan Williams come into play
I'm don't drink Bourbon/whiskey but that's all the family (grandparents/uncles/aunts) would drink thru the years. Being naive when it comes to this how do these three compare to say beer ?

If your coming from Jameson and Makers I would go with Knobs creek or Elijah Craig. Both very good, easy to drink and inexpensive.
If you are in New Orleans, Martin's wine cellar usually has special barrels of bourbon made for them.

Solid list to choose from. The key is finding one of these in the <$35(sans blantons) price point and researching the ones you like, how they're made, and what you liked about them. Then when you're looking to try something more high end you can know what to ask for and buy.

Not reallly sure how to compare those bourbons to beer as they are entirely different drinks. But the ones you mentioned are primarily mixing bourbon. Where as the replies posted are really meant to sipped straight or on the rocks. If you plan to cut it with soda, there is no reason to pay more than $20 other than for presentation. If that's is the case, just buy the coolest looking bottle.

Dickel = Yuenglings
Jim Beam = Bud
Evan = Natty

He listed makers and Jameson and I'm not mixing either.
I enjoy makers as something to order at the everyday bar.
He didn't get any suggestions for Irish Whiskey and I'm not terribly familiar with Irish whiskey, but I really enjoy the Red Breast. That's a great bottle as a step up as well.

I've only heard good things about Bookers. I may go that route. All good suggestions in this thread though....well except for the person who suggested wild turkey
