No. Let me guess...you were born in the late 90s.

Looking at the list of Clemson coaches in the 20th and 21st centuries who were there for more than 1 season, there appears to be 4 coaches whose records were significantly worse than West's. Indeed, the legendary Frank Howard's record was not dramatically better. Are you limiting yourself to coaches in your lifetime? Or is West's kid just the wrong Watkins?

Archer is/was a pretty good DC and a great linebackers coach. He was too young (I always defend Archer by reminding people that he is 3 1/2 months older than Les Miles), the wrong man at the wrong time, however you want to explain it.

Also, Archer won more games in his first 2 years than Hallman won in 4, had a winning record in the SEC - just a number of things to make him much better than Hallman.

Correct. Archer was ultimately not a good coach, who was proven to be in over his head.

He doesn't, however, deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Curley, in a discussion of terrible coaches.

I think the thing that really stings, is that they took Hallman over Spurrier.
Is that right? I thought we took Archer over Spurrier.

Well Howard did more for Clemson than the record. He stopped Big Thursday which was playing the Clemson/SC game every year in Columbia and never in Clemson. But yes he was mediocre overall.

West took a good program and turned it bad and also the attendances at some of the 90's games were horrible. Some of them would dip down to the low 60,000's. He did not put people in the seats.

Ingram and Parker were bad too

Archer won with Arnsparger's players. When they moved on we went into the shitter.

Hallman did this at LSU also. Although it would be halftime and we would be down 40 points to Florida.

oh man. 4 straight losing years in the early 90's. What was wrong with him?

His focus at LSU was banging cheerleaders, to the exclusion of all else.

He's married to Alabama state representative Tammy Irons, who's nearly 20 years younger than he is. He still likes 'em young.

It's really not debatable who the worst coach is...I don't think anyone here would say someone was worse than Hallman. His utter destruction of the football team has made a lasting impression on our fans even today. He is the primary reason for our fans suffering the "catastrophe syndrome".

The coordinator that jumps out to me is Tepper. Worst by a long shot IMO.

What Honkus and LSU7171 said – curley bout crazy
In the Old War Skule DVD they mention Hallman for 15 seconds and its about 30 seconds too much.
Thank God they did not have the “meltdown” in the 90’s LSU fans would have been a staple

Was Tepper the one who had the infamous "drop linebacker?" The local sports radio talk shows had a field day with that every afternoon.
