this is so retarded. we are so up in your head that corndogs have to argue that winning 70% at a place that produces virtually no DI talent like wisconsin equates subpar coaching. saying the b1g is down to negate bielema's record is meaningless since he is in that very same division. it would only mean something if he was losing from another conference.

ever since coach B got hired, yall have turned grasping for straws into an artform.

Look at Saban's record at MSU and then look at Bielema's record at Wiscy.

The numbers don't support your argument.

I don't think it was a terrible hire. The man has experience, I just thought that with all the time and money Arkansas had their AD would have done better.

I can't believe this thread is still going. Bielema was a great hire. Get over it.

The man can't win big games, that's his biggest knock in my opinion. His biggest win came 2 years ago by beating an admittedly good #1 Ohio State team (the same one that beat Arkansas in Sugar Bowl). Since then, not a single meaningful signature win on his resume. He's only beaten two teams in bowl games in his time as HC (one of them also Arkansas, the other a pretty average-to-bad Miami team). He runs the score up on bad teams and gets beat by the better ones. In 6 seasons he's gone 8-12 against the top 25. Good luck with all that piglets.

OK so our new coach can beat #1 teams recently. I'm sure you know better than I do, but I can't remember the last time a Les Miles team beat a #1.

2011 with Russell Wilson (see: Chizdik with Cam) and 2012 going 4-4 in conference and winning by default (see OSU and PSU troubles)

2011 with RW is an invalid argument considering he won the BiG the year prior and after without him. Also, this year he lost the majority of his coaching staff prior to the season (6 coaches, I believe). So although his record this year wasn't impressive, they finished strong considering the circumstances.

Disagree very solid hire. Stupid people think flashy coaches that throw the ball 60 times a games and don't use a FB are the only "good" coaches. WRONG!!

Grown men football. Arkansas will become tough.

Three B1G conference championships in a row? That doesn't impress anyone?

Some of y'all have your heads too far up the collective a-hole of the SEC to see that coaching success in other conferences can (and does) translate into coaching success in the SEC.

I think it's a huge hire.

ETA:

"HURR BUT THIS IS TEH SEC NOT NO BIG TEN!!!1 HE DON'T KNOW HOW TO 'CROOT AND CORCH LIKE WE DO IT IN THE SEC!!1!!"

ETA 2: And I'm not an Arkansas fan. I don't want them to win, nor do I want them to be good. I'm not too deluded by that to see that this hire was huge.

Mire in mediocrity?

This is unreal.

And that picture of Saban looks like something out of a 80s John Hughes movie.

My question to these guys is simply, who is a better hire? Who has proven more? Bielema won in a "down" B1G? Okay. The B1G is infinitely better than CUSA. So what coaches, with better resumes, should we have hired?

Keep in mind that there's not been a coach poached from another BCS school in the SEC since LSU did it with Miles (that i remember), and his resume wasn't as good as Bielema's is now.

Prior to Alvarez, Wisconsin was the Temple of the B1G. If BB was a terrible coach that program could've easily slipped back into the abyss.

Careful how you respond to BB's maintaining a program resurrected by someone else. Your comments may strike a little close to home in Red Stick...

he's not a terrible hire but let's not go crazy here. He's a "decent hire" and a good coach but definitely a wait and see if he's going to be a great one.

It was one of the best hires we could have made, knowing what we know right now. Maybe we could have rolled the dice on an up and comer and gotten the next Nick Saban, but that's doubtful. BB is a great hire when you look at what he has actually accomplished.

We weren't going to get Saban or Miles. Who else could we have gotten that was realistically within reach (not Saban, not some wet dream NFL coach) and has a better resume in the college game? Don't say Petersen or Patterson, because they coach in far weaker conferences than BB did.

If Bret Bielema is a "decent hire" then no one in college football made anything above a crap hire.

debatable. Big 10 is pretty terrible especially this year.

I don't hate the hire at all. I'll put it to you this way; Petrino was a great hire (i know it didn't work out long term but not because of on field performance), he was a known offensive guru that would fit at Arkansas. With BP (at the time) you asked the prettiest girl to the dance and she said yes.

BB is not a great hire. Maybe you could make the case that there were no great coaches available so by default he is a great hire but that seems a stretch.

man it hasn't taken y'all long to convince yourself of this. I wish this name would have been floated on the board prior to the hire; that would be a thread worth bumping

No, it's really not debatable.
