Haha fair enough. I think he will progress to a decent player but not starter caliber. I'm not a NBA scout though

Finished yesterday. Employment discrimination rocked my world. I unleashed the fury on some successions though.

When we drafted him and everyone was loving the pick, I said it was a bad pick. He's an inefficient volume shooter. He was that in college as well. We'll see if he can overcome that.

I too was pissed. When Toronto took Ross, I knew Rivers would be the pick.

That said, no idea who they should have taken instead based on who else was available. And if Monty can teach him to pass and spot up shoot, he can be useful with a Davis/Gordon/Anderson core.

About a thousand of us took successions during the summer session because Lazarus (real name, wrote the book, but long gone) was teaching and was supposed to be a soft touch. That South American a-hole figured that shite out and got pissed off. He hammered the entire class. Worst grade I received in law school. We always referred to him as "the de cujus".

I'm on the Austin Rivers is terrible bandwagon. Dude looks completely lost out there and has ZERO finishing ability. Should have stayed in school another year.

He is so, so bad and has no business being in the NBA right now. He should have stayed at least 2 years in school.

I hate bashing our players, especially someone like Austin who is a rookie and is barely old enough to vote but I'm getting nervous. He shows us some flashes and gets to the basket but never finishes. I think he would be getting some calls on some of these if he was a veteran but it's not happening. 28% from the field is just

Lucky for us, we have time, good coaching, and I don't think he will let himself not improve.

he looks terrible...needs to develop some kind of a mid-range game or a jump shot of any kind. would like to see a little more of the floater.

he finishes worse than Henry right now.

...hope he figures it out. I kind of wanted to draft Zeller, but I was all over the place.

This draft was supposed to have about 5-7 instant impact starters, everyone else after that was either a project or an instant impact but career bench player. Rivers needs to be judged on one thing this season, is he learning and doing what Monty asks him to do. That low standard won't last for ever, but his elite ability to get to the basket means he's worth investing some time to develop his missing basketball skills.

But I still believe he can turn it around.

This is why I never like trades with protected picks as the major haul. This draft was probably better than most in that respect, too.

Rivers has lots of problems right now. This picture is problem one:

He'll never have a consistent jumpshot as long he pushes the ball with BOTH hands from the middle of his forehead. His mechanics are broken and have to be fixed.
Derrick Rose spent an offseason a few years ago totally reworking his jumpshot and came back to win an MVP.

which is is...sorta.

I haven't paid enough attention to his form before this, but you are totally correct. That picture reminds me a Shawn Marion. Marion had height and stupid athleticism to make up for it, though.

Rivers needs to do the same. I feel like Monty should go Major League and make Rivers drop every time he chicken wings a shot like that. You know it's wrong because neither elbow is pointing at the rim.

We brought it up when he was clanking jumpers during the summer league. You'd think the form on his shot would be a little better given who his father is.

Pushing the ball with both hands from the middle of the forehead and his elbows literally pointing in opposite directions. I honestly don't think you could go into a lab and come up with a worse jumper.

If they're gonna have him change it, its gonna have to happen during the offseason. Doing it now would just screw him up even more.
