OMG fantastic! I was blown away by the performances of Lewis, Levitt, Jones, and Spader above all else. Such a great film. I believe it's definitely the front runner for Best Picture!

I know there have been other threads on this, but it's early in the AM, I'm on my phone, and don't feel like using the search function haha

I wanna see it, but I'm not sure (knowing history) that I can stand the portrayal of Lincoln as some freedom loving abolitionist.

It won't win best picture. Too many films coming out in the next month. They released it too early. DDL will most certainly win his third Oscar for best actor though. I think Les Mis will win best picture.

Knowing history then, you obviously know that his position changed somewhat radically from 1860 to 1865. I do think the movie points out quite fairly that he did not always favor abolition, but since it is very narrow in scope the winter of 64-65 dealing with the 13th Amendment it will be about his fight for the passage of that bill which is accurate. Just see the movie, it is well done.

Les Miserables will win and that is a guarantee.

I thought it was a let down, actaully. DDL great of course, but the movie had kind of a cheesy feel to it for such a meaty topic.
