What stat are you using to determine his efficiency and what are you using as his baseline to determine way down??

Not calling you out, just I know that before Thursday, Brees was still top 3-5 based on Football Outsiders DYAR and DVOA which are not really efficiency stats I know but curious to see what the difference is.

The thing is some of these Drew Brees worshippers will Not tolerate any critcism even when it is accurate. They just won't stand for it. They'd rather ban everyone who doesn't suck his jock 24/7 and make this place like another Saints message board, where you pump sunshine or you get run off.

You appear to be one of them.

can you give me an example of this? I don't think I've seen one person say that Brees played well, or that it wasn't his fault.

The problem is idiotic posters like you believing that you're doing some sort of service by starting sophomoric threads that lack logic or common sense.

You just keep posting gems like this: "Worshipping a person and masturbating while thinking about him...It's not healthy at all." over and over again instead of actually offering anything worth while

Orly? I have called Brees out on his last two games repeatedly on this board. I did it earlier in this thread even. But some criticism and saying the guy isnt elite are not the same thing. And this season he is still a league leader in most categories. Maybe he is throwing INTs on purpose just so he can lead that category too. I dont know man. I just dont know. He is still elite, he is still a top 3 QB, he isnt a shell, he isnt in a decline, he is a future HOF, and also, all of this:

Statistically speaking, no one in NFL history has ever:
been more accurate in season,
had more yards in a season,
had more 5000yrd passing seasons,
had more completions in a season,
had more consecutive 400+completion seasons,
had more consecutive seasons with over 4000yrds and over 30 tds,
had more games with over 5 passind tds,
had more games with more than 5tds and no ints,
had a better career completion percentage,
had more seasons with 70% completion rate,
had more games with more than 80% pass completion rate and no interceptions in a career,
had more games with 250+ yards passing in a season,
had more consecutive 400+ yard passing games
had more games with 350+ yards passingin a career or season

He also has both the highest post season completion percentage and lowest post season interception percentage in a career, highest passing yard per game in the post season in a career, most passing yards and attempts without an interception in a playoff game, most consecutive pass attempts without an interception during the playoffs

He was the first NFL QB ever to have multiple 5000 yrd seasons, multiple seasons over 70%, and is the only one to do either

Sorry, Breesus.
Those are just stats.

The eye test says he's aging poorly.

He hasn't played himself into the conversation of elite quarterbacks this season. However, I've said it before and I'll say it again; there were extenuating circumstances surrounding the entire Saints organization. I wouldn't be surprised to see him jump back to that normal, elite level again next year. He's going to need better offensive line and defensive play if that is going to happen, though. The Saints put far too much pressure on his shoulders.

What would he need to do to be elite this season?

I disagree with both of these cutting out the first 4 games of the season. Brees's problems this year and especially the last 2 games, arent because of the oline or the defense. Not at all.

Can you really be an elite QB if you are leading the league in INTs? I mean, he has almost as many INTs as Brady, Rodgers and Peyton combined

and I don't really have an issue with people who claim this.

The thread title is "Is Drew Brees still an elite QB?". I think that the answer is an unquestionable yes. A player doesn't quit being elite due to a few bad games in a very strange season. If you asked that question to NFL players and coaches, almost all of them would say he is elite.

well we've had oline injuries + our oline coach wasn't able to focus on that through the first 6 games. They started being great again, and then we got hit by the injury bug. Our interior line has been solid, bushrod has been streaky (as always) and our RT have been hurt (4th string for the san fran game). I think the injuries to the receivers have been pretty significant too, especially in the denver and san fran games. Graham hasn't been the same since his injuries

I'm completely fine with the way our defense has played since Denver. Spags has had a learning curve every single place he's been. If they hold at this level, you can't ask for much more.

Well yes, stats. He is or was in the top all time in almost every single category.

What standard would you like to judge him on?

No response to that from the Brees haters, eh?

I really didn't want to get into a back and forth on this board (and I'm not a "Brees hater"), but if you're going to taunt people after your ridiculous posts then let's do this.

quote:

These are really impressive achievements an why Brees is an elite player and a HOF lock. None of those records make him the GOAT, and at no point in his career has he "out performed every QB in history".

His greatest season was last year, and he didn't even outperform every QB that specific season. Rodgers was better. I know that you're going to come back with the completion percentage and yards, but the yards are irrelevant as they were compiled due to Brees throwing so much more than Rodgers. Rodgers had a much higher YPA, TD to attempt ration, INT to attempt ratio, etc.

quote:

Im not saying Brady and Manning arent great, but to laugh at the thought of Drew being at least equal to them is asinine in my opinion.

I didn't do that. I called out your statement that Brees has "out performed every QB in history".

Let's take a look at Brees with the Saints vs Manning's best 5 year stretch and Brady's:

Brees' QB rating last 5 seasons with the Saints:
110.6
90.9
109.6
96.2
89.4

Manning's QB rating 03-07:
99
121.1
104.1
101
98

Brady's Qb rating 07-11:
117.2
83.9
96.2
111
105.6

quote:

He is or was in the top all time in almost every single category.

That simply isn't true. Here's a link to passing records. Brees is on there a good bit, but he is most definitely not the leader in "almost every single category":

LINK

Now let me clarify my position one last time because you seem to get overzealous and misinterpret things. Drew Brees is an elite quarterback and has played at an historically great level in his time with the Saints. He's played himself into the discussion with Manning and Brady. He has not however, "out performed every QB in history" and does not own "almost every single record". Those statements are the statements of an overzealous fanboy

Brees is too short. He either needs to grow, or go.

So that entire post was to "prove" that Breesus is exaggerating the status of a future HOF, Superbowl MVP, holder of multiple, prestigious records, local Hero, role model, leader, winning NFL QB? The guy that was more accurate than an Olympic archer?

Seriously, not sure what is more pathetic? You calling him an overzealous fan for openly appreciating and defending the best QB in Saints history and one of the best in NFL history or that entire post to "prove" Drew Brees' greatness is being exaggerated!

And that's for the rest of the idiots on this thread that continue to criticize a coachless QB. (Take Phil Jackson from the Lakers and look what happens)..

Brees has more than earned devoted love and loyalty from this Fan Base.

Can we let this topic die already? Seriously.

Brees is elite, and we're absolutely nothing without him.
