what about last year when he set a 30 year old record for yards while leading the NFL in touchdowns all while leading the Saints offense to the best season in NFL history?

He was great last season, and he has been great for the past 5 years.

I'm sure he's no longer physically capable of doing that anymore after a few months. How stupid can you possibly be?

He's getting older. I'm not saying he sucks by any means. He is still without a doubt a top 5 QB. I just think this season, you could argue he may have fallen out of the top 3. However, Rodgers is having a sub par year as well, only difference is Rodgers is younger than Brees, and will more than likely bounce back. Unfortunately I think we may be seeing the slow but steady decline.

Please. Make. It. Stop.

The guy is 12 games removed from the greatest statistical season by a quarterback in history. Are you really this stupid? Do you even watch Football?

Right, because QBs who were once great never fall off towards the end of their careers. I do watch football, and watched him throw 5 ints last night. It's someone is calling your gf fat when someone mentions something about brees with some of you.

how often do elite players have HUGE fall offs after their best season? He's younger than Brady and Manning.

You don't take a guy out of the elite category based off a few games in a season when he's been elite for the past 7 years, especially when it is the weirdest situation a team has ever been faced with

You don't think Manning is falling off? You think he is as good as he was in Indy?

I agree that it has been made tough by the situation, but you expect Brees to step up in a game like last night, because that's what he's been doing for years. Idk, I guess we will see next year. Regardless, the saints need to draft a qb project soon, because he's not getting any younger, and Chase Daniels is not who you want as the qb of your team in 5 years.

Probably not. If he was first or second in every single other category, then maybe. Oh wait...

2nd in Yrds per game

Pretty redundant besides the TDs (which are definitely impressive). If you are 1st in attempts I would hope you are at the top in completions, yards and ypg. A better look would be:

Most Passing TDs
Most INTs
10th in YPA
15th in completion %
12th in QB Rating

He simply hasn't been as good as Brady, Rodgers or Peyton this season. The completion % is the damning stat. Brees' greatest skill has been his amazing accuracy (70% the previous 3 seasons combined). Just hasn't been there this year.

Funny, most of these responses come from people with brees in their avatar. Don't let the facts above cloud your judgment.

Listen man, you're right, he had a bad game last night that is very uncharacteristic.

So what does that mean?

Does it mean he's going downhill?

Or does it mean the difference between beating San Fran and Atl in Atl vs losing is Sean Payton?

You cannot underestimate Payton on the sideline coaching Brees up.

Simple example: Look at the Lakers with Phil Jackson vs without. (great fundamentals vs questionable fundamentals)..

That's what you see with the Saints.

I am not speaking in absolutes, but I think this is very possible.

I think this is also a major factor, we will know for sure next year.

I never took Brees as the type of player that needed coaching up, but again we will see next year.

100% he needs not only coaching up but he needs the proper offensive adjustments to the move the ball and score.

3rd and 2 and they are throwing bombs down the field? COME ON MAN!!

Here's a good article on the Saints and how they never had a chance to win without Payton:

It's obvious that the offense isn't the flawless well oiled machine without Payton's play calling, schemes, and knack to find mismatches causing defenses to have nightmares. He always finds that way to have a slow line backer matched up with Sproles, or a tiny safety or corner isolated in a one on one with Graham.

Think of Brees as being a top notch race car, the best at the race track, in a race with lesser quality cars.

Option A, have some average Joe Blow driving the car(Vitt)
Option B, have Jeff Gordon(or insert good driver here) driving the car(Payton)

I'll take B

This year, we had A

I see the analogy, but I can't get over how truly poor some of his decisions have been this year. We will find out next year if this honestly was a poor season because he was missing his coach, or if he may be falling off a bit.

He definitely hasn't been this year, but I'm not ready to knock him out of the overall elite category. There were some extreme circumstances surrounding him and the team this offseason/season.

Yup. We sure will. my money's on coaching.

It's amazing how Harbaugh made Alex Smith so successful last two seasons... He was a terrible bust up until last year.

No. Don't know that he was before either. Rodgers, Brady, and Manning are probably the top dogs at the moment, though last year there was no Manning. Brees is a solid number 4 though.

He leads the league in TD passes...

and in INTs.

Yes...he's having a rough patch, but he's still elite.
